So I want to get back into my old Saturn collection I found. I recently got back into shooters and forgot I bought Thunderforce 5 for Saturn. Turns out, I still have 2 American Saturns and a bunch of original import and us games, pretty much everything that was popular, and everything still works.
Question is, I plan on making a arcade cabinet based around mame and all my old consoles, but I dont remember how to swap or play japanese games on my Saturn anymore (I know I have a gameshark and one of the Saturns has the lid trick so it always thinks its closed) But I dont even really want to swap anymore, and I want to get some Saturn backups like Radiant Silvergun.
Long story short, do you guys think I should go with SSF or mod my Saturn? Will SSF play 90% of the Saturn games flawlessly?
Mod my Saturn or Emulation?
Re: Mod my Saturn or Emulation?
I one of many the ALWAYS prefer to play real hardware over emulation. Emulation is NEVER as good, and the emulators for Saturn aren't that great. You're much better off getting a mod chip. What are they, $35? Totally worth every penny. Takes about 10 minutes to install.
Re: Mod my Saturn or Emulation?
Mod your Saturn. I spent about $60 on my system and second hand (kinda) mod chip. Sega Saturn emulation isn't worth it as there's no enhancements such as filtering and increased texture resolution. The lack of enhancements will only show how glaring the flaws are.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, Saturn emulation through SSF is pretty good. Though, I'm not going to argue that using the original console isn't better.
Re: Mod my Saturn or Emulation?
SSF has gotten a lot better and Sega Saturn emulation is good, but that doesn't mean that there aren't glitches. In ePSXe I see some graphical flaws (Marvel Super Heroes for example). The emulation is still good, but it's not (and will never be) perfect. As for my original point, the emulation of the Saturn is good, but the fact that there's little enhancement options, leads the option to look unattractive.Dylan wrote:I don't know what you guys are talking about, Saturn emulation through SSF is pretty good.

Re: Mod my Saturn or Emulation?
Yeah I agree with most people telling me to mod my saturn, but emulation is just so convenient. I was sure brought back in time when playing Daytona and Dark Savior on my Saturn this morning.
Anyone know why im not botting into my Gameshark? I always have to set date/time, so maybe its my battery, but I cant get it to boot or even detect my Gameshark cart at all.

Yeah, your cart slot is worn out. Stop using the Gameshark, throw it in the garbage. The Gameshark is the absolute WORST at wearing out the cart slot. If you compare the PCB on the GameShark to an official Sega memory card you'll notice that it's squared and thicker, which is why it wears the cart slot out. If you want a cart to boot imports, get the Pro Action Replay. Either that, or you can rip your imports and change the country code, then burn them to disc and play them in a chipped Saturn.asr10 user wrote:Anyone know why im not botting into my Gameshark? And yes, your battery is dead and that's why you have to set the time and date every time you power on. You also wont be able to keep any saves on the console. Replacing the battery is easy, there's a little door on the back. It's a CR2032.

Sorry to butt in, but I'm looking to buy a Saturn soon, and so far my accessories checklist (apart from a 2nd controller) includes the modchip and a RAM cart. As a final word, which cart is the best cart for the Saturn?
