Handhelds, are they fun or just paperweights now?
Well, I was thinking...I cant collect like I used to due to space, as alot of you know. But I was thinking about maybe collecting handhelds, now I dont mean EVERY color of EVERY gameboy/gameboy color/advance so forth so on...but more so, nomad, game gear, lynx, express, gameboy, and so on.
My question is...is it worth it? Do you guys enjoy playing handhelds or are they like a brick of crap when you compare it to anything today. I still have my original game gear from when I was young but the screen is broken, but everytime I look at it it makes me wish I could play it.
What do you guys think? Do you have fun collectin for them? Something maybe I should consider due to space? Whats your opinions.

well I"m biased, since I'm obsessed with GBA in general. But what's weird is, I actally play my GB games on my Gamecube GBPlayer far more often than I do on a handheld. But on the same token, I can't imagine going to the beach etc without bringing along my GBA SP. I think at least ONE handhold is necessary.

Well I thought it would be fun just for the fact you can normally get HUGE bundles of games for a good price, and then the hard part is finding the handhelds cib and nice

to answer yr question regarding them looking like crap compared to things today... I'd rather play Metal Gear Solid on GBC than Twin Snakes, even though it's certainly graphically impressive.

GB, GBC, and GBA is pretty much the bulk of my collecting. So yeah I think it's a blast. I have 3 GBA's right now, and have in the past had several other GB's/GBC's, etc. Like I said, I'm biased, but at least with the GB line -- I can't really recommend it more!lost_within wrote:hmmm sounds like this could be fun, I know you collect gameboy games...so you must enjoy it to some point right?

I got rid of all my handhelds except for my DS Lite and PSP-2000. Both were easily modded, and my wife loves to play Picross and Picross 3-D the DS.
With the modded PSP, I can now play any/all handheld games on a handheld system with a MUCH better screen than anything that came before. Seriously, handheld screens have traditionally sucked, and this made it hard to get enthused about playing the games. Fuck playing game boy games with a damn light dangling off the side of the screen or a game gear with a magnifier. On the PSP, the best portable games are now playable on a system that does them justice. Oh, and there's also a nice library of PSP originals to peruse, IMO.

see I thought about that as well, but that doesnt sound as fun as retro collecting. I dont know maybe I should just stay away from it all together but...the collecting bug is biting loldsheinem wrote:I got rid of all my handhelds except for my DS Lite and PSP-2000. Re: Handhelds, are they fun or just paperweights now?
I play my handhelds way more than my consoles. They're so easy to take anywhere. I love the PSP and I also love my GBA SP+. The only disadvantage of handhelds is that they don't foster social interaction as much as consoles do.
