Speedrunning
Speedrunning is, in case you somehow don't know and somehow can't deduce from the name, playing through a game with the purpose of beating it as fast as possible. Now, I'm sure I'm not the only ones who likes to speedrun games, so what games do you guys speedrun? Here's my list:
Super Metroid any% - 0:40 (game time). I set this record a couple years ago, but haven't really been playing too much lately, other than popping it into the SNES a couple times a month or so and usually finishing around 0:42 or 0:43. I hope to get it under 0:40 some day.
Mega Man X2 any% - 0:47:22 (real time). My time used to hover around ~0:55, but I've been playing a lot more lately. Trying to get it to at least 0:42:xx, which seems fairly doable if I can learn how to do the boss battle a lot more quickly. And although it is an any% run, I do get all the items simply because of how much time Uppercut saves on the bosses and Sigma. I don't however, get the Zero parts.
Super Mario World any% - somewhere around 14 minutes. Definitely one of the easiest games to speedrun. I don't think I ever recorded my exact time, but I know its somewhere around there.
(EDIT: I really need to proofread my posts better...)

Super Metriod in 40 minutes?! Thats insane!
Of course I'm not quite an expert at speedrunning so I dont know how fast that is in comparison with some other racketboy member's time

Re: Speedrunning
Super Mario Brothers for the NES (not the SNES version in SMAS) - 7 mins, 32 seconds using warps. Not impressive, but honestly, its because of a bet and the TIGHTNESS OF THE ENGINE. SMB has one of the tightest controls EVER. Honestly, I could ramble about how tight the combination of the NES controller and the game engine, but I'll just leave it at this - the only controller (for me) is that, or the DS Lite's whenever playing this game.
Re: Speedrunning
Sometimes I do this in Sonic levels (usually the early ones) but I've never been much for doing a whole game. And I usually do it for my own fun, not to post a video on youtube or anything. Although I do check out what other people are doing sometimes and try to replicate it. I think it's too time consuming to practice a single game enough to be the fastest at it.
Re: Speedrunning
I used to make runs through Silent Hill 3. I know I was well under 2 hours, probably close to 1 hour 15 min-1 hour 30 min when I stopped. But that was six years ago, so I doubt I'd be anywhere near there if I started playing again today.

Yeah, I go there often. Most of the times on there (for the more popular games, anyways) are pretty much the best recorded, so they're what I go on when I want to know what time to strive for.final fight cd wrote:if you like speed running you should check out this website

Based on a rumor that you could see Samus Aron naked, my brother got his Super Metroid time down to roughly 30 minutes.
I don't generally go for speed runs, but have on occassion. When I was preparing for the Nintendo World Championships, I got some things down really fast though. I forget exactly what my times were because that was like 20 years ago (yikes! I'm old!), but I could get the first 100 coins on Mario in a matter of seconds, running the entire time without every stopping for anything, except bank boxes. I could also pass the first race in Rad Racer in about 1 minute, never breaking, never bumping cars, and never going off road. These were the first two of the three trials for the competition, followed by Tetris for the remainder of your time. I didn't have a copy of Tetris to practice on, so that was my Achilles' heel and I didn't get past the semi-finals in my state (Utah), but I still felt pretty damn good getting that far. I was up on stage with giant monitors behind me with two other kids with a crowd of people cheering us on. That was the final round I won. It was pretty thrilling.

Re: Speedrunning
Well, the record is 0:32 (which is absurdly fast and came out of nowhere; the record before that was 0:36 AFAIK), so I doubt he got it that lowJ T wrote:Based on a rumor that you could see Samus Aron naked, my brother got his Super Metroid time down to roughly 30 minutes.![]()

Re: Speedrunning
Best speed run ever on the http://speeddemosarchive.com/ site, Clue for the Genesis in 3 seconds. Now that's a speed run.
