ASR garnering positive reviews

Could this game be actually better than the averageness that is Mario Kart Wii? It would be too much to ask mainstream websites to confirm this (lest they receive threatening letters from the fanboys), but I think this game might make me interested in the karting genre after a long hiatus.

I hope it does well. Mario Kart Wii was trash. I have never heard of a game where they punish you for being first. That game was broken and be far the worse in the series.

The IGN review is on youtube:

It looks fun. I think Ill pick it up after I see how the battle mode looks. Racing only holds my group for so long, battle is what we play for years. Mario Kart 64 is still the most played game at my house.

A lot of racing games punish you for being first. Do you not remember games where if you are first the other cars go faster? It keepss you constantly on your toes. Who wants a racing game where your lapping everybody whats the fun in that, and who wants to get last and have no hope of getting back up?

That said I haven't tried ASR but hopefully it is good enough that there are other options then mariokart because all the other challegers pretty much failed.

I'm glad that it has been reviewed well instead of another shovelware kart racing game. My eye is on ModNation Racers though...

These levels look awesome! Holy crap! The only Kart Racing games I ever liked were crash team racing and Mario Kart 64. I've been eyeing Modnation racers because it looks like mario kart + burnout, but I think there's room for one more.

I'm actually very excited about this game. The main reason being, it is the first time in years that my wife has been interested in a video game! She actually had me pre-order it on Amazon, which is unheard of in our relationship! She is a big fan of the N64, so the only games I can ever really get her to play are Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. When she saw the screen shots for this she went nuts and asked me to buy it immediately since it looked comparable to Mario Kart 64.

Smart marketing move putting game on multi platform, move over Mario Kart. Looks like a good game.

I played the demo and wasn't blown away. I'll probably pick it up once it's 14.99, which is what happens with every Sega release (samba de amigo, Nights, Sonic Tennis, all dirt cheap)

The demo made me not want this game. The handling sucks. Such a shame considering that the handling on Outrun 2 (also made by Sumo digital) is spot on.

Plus it just screams of mediocrity. The only draw appears to be that Ryo is in it. Everything else is just standard kart racer carbon copy. Such a disappointment.
