I want to talk about this video:
http://kotaku.com/5479125/points-for-to ... king-about
The video game industry and the traditional gamer have been shocked by the success of things like the Wii and Facebook games. We never expected these things to happen. So knowing why these were successful, what can we expect to be successful in the future?
This presenter has ideas about this and he gives a great presentation. It's kind of long (28 min), but definitely worth watching. Watch the video and let me know what you think and what you think will become popular in the future of the gaming industry.
What will the future of popular gaming look like? (LAZERS!)

In a few generations, there will be no game consoles
Just Gaming PCs, and All-in-one portable devices like the Iphone (or a non-suck version of the N-gage)

All humans will have computer chips put into their heads when they're born so that they'll be able to play Tetris or Space Invaders with their mind. It's optional for adults.

I expect the future of popular gaming to look a lot like the present of popular music. That is, utter shit.

Yes, but there's still something for everyone.Hatta wrote:I expect the future of popular gaming to look a lot like the present of popular music. That is, utter shit.
I've got no signature.

Not on the radio. Fortunately the internet is not anywhere near as controlled as the radio, so niche games (like independent music) will continue to exist. But by and large, it'll be utter crap.

Re: What will the future of popular gaming look like?
I've never watched a game conference video that made me sad before. Comparisons between reality TV and the word "disposal" thrown around are enough to cause heartbreak. I know this whole thing is about games being integrated into everyday life activities, but that means conventional gaming will take a back seat because it no longer reaps profit for big companies.
Good thing we all like retro games right? We'll all have a nice safe haven once this shit goes spiraling out of control.

Nintendo at least, will do all they can to maintain their dominance of the handheld console market. It prints money, so they cannot allow devices like the iphone/itouch to surpass them. Though they will most likely continue as they normally would and be unaffected. The iphone is, in my eyes, just a fad in the transition to android phones.

I imagine the future of gaming will look something like this:

Or perhaps this?
