Just read The Cobra Event. Its a terrifying and graphic story about biological terrorism. Has some truth to it, in the form of some non fiction chapters. The writer is a scientist, and some of the stuff seems like it could actually happen.

I'm weird with books. If I pick up a good one, I'll tear through it. Then I'll go a long time without reading another. Last one I read was God is not Great by Christopher Hitchens last fall.

Chronic City by Jonathan Lethem. You can tell the author is a disciple of the late Philip K. Dick. The novel is possibly quite the most contemporary I've read so far, with "google", "ebay" and "MMO" being thrown around every other passage. Telling the stories of several self-centered characters going their daily routines in Upper East Side Manhattan Lethem manages to deliver a generic satire of life in the city that never sleeps, one that drags on too long and lacks certain edginess that would have made it recommendable reading. At least one of the key characters is a Marlon Brando fanboy.

I don't read for pleasure much anymore 'cause I get so burnt out from reading for school. I'm working on an English lit degree, so I spend most of my days reading. I save my free time for video games.

That said, I read a great comic the other day called The Photographer by Emmanuel Guibert. It's a really cool memoir of 1980's Afghanistan told through photos and comic panels. Subverts all the traditions of adventure stories and French comics. Check it out if you like things that are good.
