One time purchase and it will last for the life of the product. At least until they come out with a new full version (3.0). All upgrades up until that point will be free.

It works pretty good on the right hardware.

Wii Playon = OK

WDTV Live Playon = really nice

No experience with PS3 or Xbox360 so I can't comment on those.
