Now that you have a newborn it is your duty to get a Genesis! Sure, the PS/XB collections are great, but they're missing great games like Valis. That kid needs to play Truxton! I played Truxton and Valis when I was a kid, look at how I turned out!Flak Beard wrote:puke_face wrote:I'm constantly tempted to pick up another Genesis, but always fall back on the PS2/360 Genesis collections and emulating on the PC with my Saturn USB pad.
The wife and I have newborn now, so you can imagine the amount of baby stuff strung about the house. I keep my game room nice and tidy for sanity purposes.
I am done...

Sell the newborn for more games and prostitutes, it's the right thing to do. Take it from me, I used to be a scientologist.Flak Beard wrote:The wife and I have newborn now, so you can imagine the amount of baby stuff strung about the house. I keep my game room nice and tidy for sanity purposes.

I'm in the same spot as far as game collecting too trying to cut down on retro purchases to get my gaming room finished with new furniture, etc.Unleaded Logic wrote:I'm actually stopping myself shortly after the Midwest Gaming Classic. Will I be giving up buying video games completely? No! I'll still be buying new releases, but I'm going to cut down on the retro stuff unless its a amazing deal to be had.
My reasons for doing this? I've got one more credit card to pay off and two that I want to pay off and keep. After that, I will be debt free which is awesome.
After that, I want to finish my basement so I can move my game stuff downstairs. So any extra income will go to finishing the basement.
I'm actually thinking making Feb/March my retro game purchasing months every year to divide things out better, but who knows.

me also i've slowed down a ton, the only games i want now are the big ones. Snatcher, Panzer Saga, Shining Force III, Popful Mail, The Secret of Monkey Island Sega CD, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Mega Man X2 and X3, Little Samson, Duck Tales 2, Dragon Warrior 3 and 4. Those are all the games i personally will go out and buy on ebay when i get money after that i just look for store display and more memorabilia i feel kind of done with games.

Damn I'm not off to a good start!s1mplehumar wrote:PM on the way Epoch. I just won your Rumble Pack auction.
By the way, there is also one detail I need to inform all Racketboy members of. Even after all the years I've been selling on eBay I only just found out today when I tried giving a 15% discount that eBay only allows me to discount taxes or shipping costs, and since those are both at $0.00 there is nothing else it will let me apply a discount for.
So there's two ways I can go about to giving the 15% discount...
1) If you won an auction, simply send payment for the final sale price and I'll refund you 15% of what you sent. (Simply put in a note when sending payment informing me that you're a Racketboy member, or PM me here too)
2) Or give me your eMail address and I'll send you 15% of the winning bid amount to your Paypal account so that when you pay with your bank or credit card Paypal will use the funds in your Paypal account first and only the discounted funds are withdrawn from bank/credit card.
I think that's the simplest way to do it, sorry if it seems like a bit long-winded..
Very well said.Beak wrote:Some people don't realize how shackled they are to material things; it takes quite a revelation to see that sometimes. Nostalgia is a dangerous thing because it's inherent that you're desiring a past that you cannot have anymore. If you could have that time, then it wouldn't be nostalgia. There's a Buddhist saying: abandon hope. It means do not wish for more than what you have. Be happy and content with life as it is. Then, if you get more, it is even more of a blessing. Hoping and thinking you deserve more will always lead to dissatisfaction with life. You have to be able to stop, in the very moment you're in, and be content with what you have now, no matter what it is.

Re: I am done...
This hits home for sure where I am at in my life right now. For most of my life I have been a collector of not only video games but comic books, toys, records, cds, etc, etc. And when add on top of it all that I have been running a record label and mail order since 1998 I have thousands of cds and record inventory in my possession as well.
Over a year ago I needed some spending cash for a trip I was taking so I went through boxes of toys that I didn't have displayed and probably never was going to and through them up on Ebay. It was a bold step for me, as I have a hard time getting rid of anything but it forced me to look at my habits and the idea that my possessions just weigh me down. Earlier this spring I actually felt legitimate panic by being surrounded too much stuff.
It has been a process but slowly but surely I have unloaded a considerable amount of stuff, and I have say it was staggering how much stuff I kept around that I no longer identified with or found enjoyment in. All of my collections have been trimmed down to strictly what I 100% enjoy playing, displaying, listening to, reading, etc. Anything outside of that gets listed on Ebay. And you know what it makes me enjoy what I have kept even more.
But yeah man, I really hear what you are saying having all of these possessions can weigh one down. And not sound like "woe me" because we can stop anytime we want, collecting becomes an obsession where you become exhaust so much energy on the hunt where it eclipses the enjoyment aspect which should be the only reason.
