I'll give it a shot...
K...
System Shock 1 can almost certainly be [ ], and it would be ok to [ ] that game because I don't think it even sells retail anymore. It's old as hell, and I've never played it, but I bet its the cat's meow.
Now...
There's a wealth of singleplayer Halflife 1 mods (which you most certainly own already), so there I would recommend They Hunger, a singleplayer zombie mod which kind of kicks ass, but might look a little sick these days. Worth a try, def. +2 sequels! Played em, good stuff. Srs.
I'm really pushing here... eh... fuck it, Quakelive, its not singleplayer, but if you have an fps itch, there's no better way to scratch it than with some Quake 3 action. I'm srs, I played it for a while, and it kicked ass.
Ok... almost free.
skip Deus Ex, that game sucks...
skip your mom, she's got rabies-babies
K: SYSTEM SHOCK 2 you need to play this game if you already haven't, its not free, but it either almost is or can be [ ]. So... uh! Good!! Fuck that's good!
And I'm spent...
Good single player PC freeware FPS games?

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for me.
Re: Good single player PC freeware FPS games?
finally... I'm gonna jump out and say that you should play GTA3 if you haven't already. It's not fps, but I think it might work. And that game is so good Even if you have a PS2 lying around, boot that shit up!

Re: Good single player PC freeware FPS games?
Yeah Flak Beard, I'm sorry to say that I don't know if free FPS titles will be able to cure the itch, as it definitely didn't help with me. But I will at least mention one thing that might help:
Area 51 - The FPS that was released several years ago, not the light gun game. Back in late 2008 the USAF decided it could give out free video games over the Internet as long as they were rife with ads, and Area 51 was one of the titles. You might still be able to find it, though expect an advertisement to join the Air Force during every loading screen.
I went through something similar, starting in 2008. First I went back through and replayed many of the FPS games I already owned: Call of Duty 4, Half-Life, Half-Life: Source, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., etc. It didn't help. So then I picked up Area 51. Nice, but it definitely didn't relieve the itch.
Eventually it got so bad, I started looking for heavily discounted FPS titles. Here are a few collections I picked up:
Medal of Honor 10th Anniversary - includes MoH: Allied Assault and it's two expansions, MoH: Pacific Assault, and MoH: Airborne
Unreal Anthology - includes Unreal and the expansion, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, and UT2k4
Painkiller Black - includes Painkiller and its expansion
While looking for some cheap titles, I picked up Prey, Call of Juarez, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, Turok, Crysis, Portal, and the new Wolfenstein. Aside from Wolfenstein, each of these averaged $5-$10 in price(or less. Prey cost me $3). I've also seen Far Cry going for around there, and Far Cry 2 for $20. I also bought the Penumbra Trilogy for about $10, though these aren't FPS...though they are first person.
So if you're only willing to spend a few bucks, there are a few titles out there you can check out. They're not all the best FPS titles, but I enjoyed them for the six months they lasted me. And since then I've been able to move on to other games. I might have another kick in the next few months though. Maybe I'll finally go out and pick up Far Cry 2, once it hits the $10 range.

In your steps good sir I follow. Buy Neighbors From Hell if you already haven't. Sure it might not be an FPS but I think it might do. And the game is so brilliant it might make you give up on fps altogether!trdbglr wrote:finally... I'm gonna jump out and say that you should play GTA3 if you haven't already. Really? Hmmm. Perhaps I should have bought this back when it was on sale.Pulsar_t wrote: In your steps good sir I follow. Buy Neighbors From Hell if you already haven't. Sure it might not be an FPS but I think it might do. And the game is so brilliant it might make you give up on fps altogether!

The games are nice little diversions, akin to those "desktop games" where you play them in small bites. You can try a demo here
