The Japanese sure love Shmups on the PSN Store PSP / PS3

Post by Japhei »

I was on the Playstation store in Japan and was browsing the top 10. I noticed it was pretty much filled with traditional Arcade type shmups. I also see the total lack of them released for the PS3 in japan on Bluray Disc and wonder why there are no retail releases. Is Sony keeping 2d games off ps3? Are they wanting only 3d games for sale at retail? Or Is Microsoft paying off the companies to release shmups on their console now numbering 13 Released or officially announced as of right now for retail.

Here is the list of Top downloads on PSN and Top PS3 / PSP Downloads Overall in Japan

1. Soldier Blade
2. G Darius
3. R Type Delta
4. R Types
5. Einhander
6. Raystorm
7. Raycrisis
8. Nuclear Strike (EA)
9. Sonic Wings Special
10. Shienryu

Pictures to back it up

Hopefully we can see another Shmup release on PS3 other then Soldner X 2.

A damn shame they are not either. I would glady fork over 600 yen for each to be able to use on my PS3 and PSP. Guess I will just use my POPStation in order to make PSP versions :)

Thunder Force V is on there? I'm totally downloading that!

BTW, Japhei, the reason why the top 10 are all shoot 'em ups is because you are looking at the top 10 shoot 'em ups category!!!.

No my friend

That is from the Front page

I did not click on a category.

I took multiple pics Thunderforce V was on the front page only for a few seconds they were scrolling out other games as well.

I had to re-read your post several times and I'm still not sure what point you're trying to make. Are you trying to say that Shmups are very popular on the Playstation Japan store but there have not been any new retail releases of shmups in awhile? If so, you should go back and correct your post since it's very unclear what you're trying to point out.

The way I read it is that you're contradicting yourself by saying that shmups are in the top 10 list in Japan Playstation store but there have been no releases.

It seems like a rant that Japan is hogging all the good shmups.

Okay on my Soap box with a tangent again.

I was looking back on the last games on Dreamcast and besides that Rush Rally game they are all pretty much shumps one after another. I like some shumps, but too bad those were the last type games being released for a great system. Same goes with the PS2, its death throws or should I say throw ups are Guitar Heroes over and over.
