I'm the opposite, I'd rather take my DS on long trips with me, there's loads more interesting RPG/adventure games on DS. It seems that if all you want are action or platforming games the PSP is the way to go, but for more puzzle, adventure and RPG titles the DS is the way to go. I prefer the games on the DS and play way more on my DS than my PSP. It just comes down to preference though. I think Sony would do well to cater towards more pick and play games rather than games with an extended narrative. The key thing is the DS has all genres in spades. The PSP is quite limited and narrow in it's scope for genres. Plus there's great games coming out for DS all the time. This just isn't the case for PSP. What have we got on the horizon, Peace Walker? What else?

The problem is the title lineup. How many really good games are out there for the PSP? I can only think of a few and half of them will not appeal to everyone.

I'd blame poor battery life.

Maybe we just like different genres at different times. I like puzzles and RPGs for short gaming sessions, as you can do a puzzle then quit, or you can earn a few XP and quit. An action adventure game requires sustained attention or I'll forget what I'm doing.

I don't usually pay attention to upcoming games, and I doubt I'll play either handheld enough to exhaust the library of existing games. But I did a quick google and found this which might address your concerns. There are a number of big name RPGs coming up for the PSP.

BTW, right now I'm playing Killzone Liberation. It's good fun. The 3rd person perspective reminds me a lot of the original Metal Gear. Nice to see something different from an established franchise.

The PSP has a lot more games that are more my style. There are some bad ones out there, but I always thought the lineup was pretty decent. The DS has a total of probably 10 games that I'm interested in.

Nothing wrong with that. It's the best damn handheld for retro gaming.

I think both DS and PSP sales will plummet as Cell Phone games become more popular. In the case of PSP especially because of price, I think its already happening now. The convenience of cell phone full of games is always with you. Probably why that silly PSP GO came out to try and compete with the iPhone gaming market. Now if the PSP happened to add phone capabilities? Too late, Apple has that stranglehold. Noki nGage was a start but underpowered and wrong marketing killed it. Not enough of a phone and not enough to compete against Gameboy.

Anyways back to the topic. Sony really can't blame piracy. Its the games and marketing. Nintendo simply has good business sense and customer loyalty. More of their games are made for that jump in play 10 minutes then move on. Basically what the portable is used for. The long intense games are pointless on a portable, when there is a better HD Screen waiting at home.

Is the PSP really even a failure? PSP go withstanding, they've sold close to 60 million units since it's original release. Certainly the hardware to software sales probably aren't as good as Sony had hoped, but prior to Sony entering the game every non-Nintendo handheld had failed miserably.

They probably lost a lot of money on the hardware, that's probably why they're so butt-hurt about it. When you're losing money on the hardware having a poor software attach rate is like being kicked when you're down.

Good point regarding cell phones. Especially the Iphone. One thing I find very curious is the definitive version of Broken Sword: Directors Cut is on the iPhone and costs a fraction of the price that it does on Wii/DS. £3.99 on appstore and £15-20 on consoles. For the same game. Likewise, GTA: Chinatown Wars, £15-20 on PSP/DS yet it's only £5.99 on iPhone. Suffice to say, I bought the iPhone version. The controls work really well surprisingly, the best iPhone game I've ever played.

Sony need to buck their ideas up especially when Apple is seriously undercutting them in the digital distribution sector and making money hand over fist. When will Sony realise that people won't pay for downloads when they're the same price or more than the physical product? They need to start selling PSP games for £5-10 max. They would be absolutely laughing all the way to bank. The main problem with Sony, greed. They're just too fucking greedy.
