2010 Olympics Mens Hockey

Post by Ack »

So I don't normally follow sporting events, and the Olympics haven't really ever garnered my attention until this year, when I started paying attention to...of all things...hockey. I like hockey. I don't get to see it much in the South, but it's always struck me as a sport that's a lot of fun to watch.

Currently Switzerland and Belarus are playing, and whoever wins gets to take on the US in the quarter finals. I'm interested in seeing who it will be, though we beat Switzerland already, and Belarus hasn't done so well. I also figure Canada will beat Germany and then go up against Russia, and I'm very interested in seeing what will happen there, as I keep hearing Russia's one of the best(I haven't watched them play).

So fellas, what are your thoughts? I know we've got some hockey fans here.

Not a huge hockey fan but free Ducks tickets will get me going for the beer and fights.

Glad as hell to see we beat Canada ...

I think it's awesome that the Canada-US match up the other day was the most widely watched sports event in Canada's history.

I think it's even more awesome that we kicked their ass all aboot the rink

No hard feelings, Canucks, Marty just had an off day and Miller played better than I've ever seen him play. I'm terrified that vengeance will be yours. Though the switch to Luongo is ill advised, I believe...

Hockey is a great sport! It is a little difficult to watch on TV, especially not on HD, but it is one of the best live sporting event you can go to. The US team looks solid right now. Ryan Miller has been outstanding in goal and everyone is playing scrappy. Sunday's win was great and hopefully they can keep riding the wave and get the gold!

HUGE hockey fan here. Played it in college (well, it was only with ECU), coached little league in college too.

It's hard to not root for Canada, but man, they are in for some rough times. If they advance they have to face Russia, and no one wants to have to play Ovi and the boys this year. Germany won't be easy to beat either, but I think Canada will beat them by two goals, none of them on an empty net. Crazy that they're pulling who can be argued as the best goaltender of all time (I'm still with Roy for that award) though.

My thoughts are that the US will beat Switzerland and Russia will beat Canada. Then Canada will be Switzerland for Bronze, and the US will beat Russia for Gold.

Personally, I feel like Canada would do light years better if they chose Steven Stamkos and/or Martin St. Louis, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a diehard Lightning fan.

And actually, if Russia vs US happens, I don't know how to US could pull it off. I mean, sure Russia's goaltending in Semyon Varlamov isn't exactly world class, but they have a really great combo in Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin. And the US is filled with young guns like Ryan Malone, Ryan Kesler, Chris Drury, etc. So overall, I'm going with the US for Gold.

Hey guys, I'm right there with you all hoping the US gets gold. Do you guys think we'll be playing Finland, or either the Czech Republic or Latvia? I'm really not expecting it to be Latvia...I caught a game of theirs, and they just didn't seem to have it in them this year.

Just because I wasn't born anywhere near 1980 doesn't mean I don't believe lightning can strike twice.

We'll probably be playing Finland. Though the Czechs may have Jagr, the goaltending that Finland has in Antero Niittymaki is superb if he stays consistent. And I doubt seriously we'll be playing Latvia. Have they ever actually won anything? Because it seems they're consistently getting slaughtered by the top three.

I'd say the USA will face Latveria before they face Latvia. My money would be on Czech.
