I am done...

I say we head into the stars, build societies where individual worth is valued more than money, and where everyone lives happily contributing to society willingly and unicorns fly over the rainbows. I've been reading too much James P. Hogan

Re: I am done...
For some reason I feel the same way but as others have said, I relapse into collecting. However lately, I haven't gotten anything but newer games, older games just keep getting less appealing to me. I can barely stand anything before the original Playstation and Saturn, and even then those are a stretch. I can enjoy the occational DC or PS2 game, but I find myself playing more and more newer games.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: I am done...
It's not impossible but not too likely either I think. You see that's why I sold off a substantial part of my collection a year or so back, aside from the practical reasons it was also a way to test myself and see how I'd feel about selling my collection after a good bit of time has gone by. Nearly two years later now I don't have any regrets, so I feel confident that I won't lose any sleep over selling the rest of it.aaron wrote:i admire this, but you'll probably relapse. i've done this at least 2 times in my short time of game collecting (basically for the last 8 years). i do wish you luck, though. i'm trying to streamline my collection a little better. it's not easy.
Now that's something worth thinking about. That is, if I do relapse and decide to collect again it would be an expensive decision because all the games I'd want to buy back could cost quite a bit more later down the road...Alpinex2 wrote:This is why I love having kids, I have an excuse to never sell my games I'm going to pass them down one day when my collection is worth 4 - 5 times what it's worth now
Hopefully your kids will understand the value of what they inherited when the day comes and don't just sell it all off to buy a Ferrari or something.
Lol... I was never a big fan of having stand alone manuals myself but I kept the few I had because I just knew someone out there some day would probably want them. Well whaddaya know!noiseredux wrote:I never ever thought I'd bid on a manual. I hate the idea of it. But it was literally YESTERDAY that I said to myself, "damn! I'll proably never find the manual for Battletoads for Game Boy." Sigh.
For some reason cheesy Disney music played in my head when I read that.Pulsar_t wrote:I say we head into the stars, build societies where individual worth is valued more than money, and where everyone lives happily contributing to society willingly and unicorns fly over the rainbows. That's an interesting point you bring up, particularly about buying new games. Hopefully no one misunderstood my intentions of ceasing game collecting and becoming master Yoda to mean that I'm quitting gaming altogether. Hardly. I'm keeping my PSP so I can play my NES, SNES, Genesis (and more!) games on the go. Likewise for my DS. I'm still a gamer. always have been, always will be.Unleaded Logic wrote:I'm actually stopping myself shortly after the Midwest Gaming Classic. Will I be giving up buying video games completely? No! I'll still be buying new releases, but I'm going to cut down on the retro stuff unless its an amazing deal to be had.
That's the trouble with being a retro game collector though, all spending preference goes to buying older games because they're out of print and slowly becoming harder to find as time goes on. It's a legitimate concern of course, but it also has the effect of making it that much harder to afford any of the current gen games.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to give the current generation of gaming too much credit given how about 60% of the games out there are shooters or involve guns in some way, and that a certain console from Microsoft is very often out-lived by hamsters while my NES still works. But even so there are games out there I'd like to experience that I couldn't because all funds were directed towards the older stuff.

Re: I am done...
I've pretty much stopped collecting as well, but mostly for monetary and space reasons. Of course, my collection is nothing compared to some of the users on here. I don't know how those guys do it honestly. Even if I had the money, it would be exhausting tracking down so many games.
The mentioning of kids is a good point. I'd probably sell a lot of my titles if it weren't for the fact I'd like to pass them on to my son when he is old enough.

I hear you on most all of this man. I have gotten so burned out on playing video games here lately... yet I still play them. I keep telling myself "this is the last game I'm buying for the old consoles" but then I remember one I used to love playing, and buy it... only to be disappointed because it just doesn't feel like it used to. When I first played Stunt Race FX, or Star Fox.. I was in awe over the graphics more than the gameplay. Don't get me wrong, I still love Star Fox, but Stunt Race.... I can barely tell what is going on, and the speed of the game is so slow paced. I've started collecting old hardback books ( Secret of the Gnomes, The Wind in the Willows, etc. ) just to step away from the video games a little bit... but eventually someone on here has something I just can't pass up, or I find an unbeatable deal on ebay or amazon. For me, it's like trying to kick a bad habit, but then it's like.. well, just one more.... DAMN!

One more thing when you were talking about moving forward and not looking at the past. You can do both, that's what life is a balance. Move forward while cherishing the past. And I'm not sure how old you are but when you're in your 30's and have kids looking at the past is the best part of your life.

I'm after his copy of Zelda II for the NES.pepharytheworm wrote:Looks like someone wants first dibs on your collection.Luke wrote:pm sent
I've got Zelda II on the GBA, and on the Gamecube, but have always wanted a copy of it for the NES. It's a pretty cart.
