So i picked up a ps3 with backwards compatibility. Packed up my ps2.
Recently picked up a handful of ps2 fight games. Excited to try them out on the ps3 with a good stick, I picked up a madcatz marvel vs capcom 2 stick only to find that when in ps2 mode, it can't find the stick.
Are there any ps3 sticks that can be used on ps2 games? Any ps3 sticks that don't use the usb interface?
ps2 fighters on the ps3: good sticks?
Re: ps2 fighters on the ps3: good sticks?
I don't know much about sticks, but you can get a PS2 stick and use it on PS3 through an adapter.
I use the PS2 Sega Saturn pads on my PS3 through a Hais adapter and it works for all PS1/2/3 fighters.

I use the X-Arcade. Even when I don't use the X-Arcade itself, I use it's PS2-to-PS3 converters to use my PS2 Street Fighter 20th Anniversary Fight Pads.
Re: ps2 fighters on the ps3: good sticks?
I know usb controllers were not able to be used in ps2 games before a certain firmware update...so if by chance you have an old firmware that is probably the problem, but that's about all I can think of that could be wrong :\nickfil wrote:So i picked up a ps3 with backwards compatibility. Re: ps2 fighters on the ps3: good sticks?
Hmmm. I think maybe it is the type of ps3 i have? I have a 60GB ps3 doesn't use software to emulate the ps2, it uses hardware. I think the firmware update would only effect an 80 GB. At any rate- I am up to date, but still unable to use the stick.dlmvii wrote:I know usb controllers were not able to be used in ps2 games before a certain firmware update...so if by chance you have an old firmware that is probably the problem, but that's about all I can think of that could be wrong :\
Re: ps2 fighters on the ps3: good sticks?
I'm not sure....I have a 60GB as well, and I've used the Soul Calibur IV stick to play some ps2 shmups before. I don't think it's possible for certain ps2 games to support the usb devices and some don't (since the ps3 just makes them look like ps2 controllers). I don't know what else it could be unless the controller is busted or it's desynching or something :\

I don't think you got what the thread is about...CRTGAMER wrote:One word to keep that PS2 ............HDLoadernickfil wrote:So i picked up a ps3 with backwards compatibility. Packed up my ps2.
I'm not getting rid of my ps2. Just packed it up for now. I gotta find time to get a hard drive in my xbox before my ps2. And maybe before that chip my Saturn. Projects vs free time.
I'm just curious about getting a stick setup.
Re: ps2 fighters on the ps3: good sticks?
I was just pointing out its better to run the PS2 with all those PS2 fighter games you have. Less headaches of Arcade Stick compatibility issues when using PS2 games with a PS2 compatible controller. For the Fighting games if you can find it, the Blaze Twin Shock is great! With the HDLoader you have convenience of not having to change discs and fast loading.nickfil wrote:I don't think you got what the thread is about...CRTGAMER wrote:One word to keep that PS2 ............nickfil wrote:So i picked up a ps3 with backwards compatibility. Re: ps2 fighters on the ps3: good sticks?
USB controllers will only work with PS2 games if Sony releases a firmware update specifically for that controller. That's why only older controllers like the Hori Fighting Stick 3 will work with PS2 games. I guess since they phased out the PS2 backward compatible PS3 models, they didn't bother to release updates to allow newer controllers to work with PS2 games, which is probably why the Madcatz Fightpad/Fightsticks don't work on PS2 games.dlmvii wrote:I know usb controllers were not able to be used in ps2 games before a certain firmware update...so if by chance you have an old firmware that is probably the problem, but that's about all I can think of that could be wrong :\nickfil wrote:So i picked up a ps3 with backwards compatibility.
