Wii: no Sega CD, Turbographx CD is a pain to get going and the games will fill up your SD card quickly, Neo Geo is flawed (not full screen, loose controls), MAME is flawed w/load times of up to 30 mins and doesn't play as many games as X-Box, no Playstation, no N64.

Definitely X-Box. No contest.
it has playstation, and a weak library of N64 stuff. Low compatibility. But for something line sin and punishment that has come out on wiiware, you can always just install the channel via wad installer.

Anyone loading off an SD card for CD based games over a usb HDD is doing it wrong, unless it is the only option. I haven't played with the Turboduo stuff yet.

but yeah- xbox does offer a bit more.

Honestly- it really depends on what you want from your system. For me, i like having the mouse pointer for scumm. I would never have played a scumm game otherwise. I'm not that into retro fighters so mame/neogeo is kind of a meh for me. They are fun to play occasionally, but the anthologies and new games do the job imho.

I turned off my online connection as soon as I installed the homebrew channel. I only did a disk update to play Muramasa because it kept nagging me to upgrade.
you can install some hacks to make it skip that disc upgrade check. Not exactly sure where to point you as far as the best resource, preloader used to be the easy way to do it, but i don't know if it has been updated or changed at all over the years.

If you are worried about something like that there are options.... google is your friend.

Also- there is always going to be ways around what nintendo sets up. It is just a reality of what pirates do. Nintendo comes out with something- pirates respond. I wouldn't worry too much. Plus, you gotta be kinda moronic to update your wii with nintendo software after modding. Just sayin no disrespect.
I checked to make sure the version that Muramasa installed wouldn't break anything before I ran the update. I know not to update unless I know what the update does

FYI- there is a character limit to file names on the xbox. A lot of my time is spent renaming games just so it'll fit on that fucker.
I hate the character limit, it's a huge pain for tv shows. I've gone through and renamed every single episode I have of tv shows so I can use them on there. Scene naming conventions are just too long. Goddamn that took forever to do.

But yeah, the maturity of xbox emulators is probably one of it's best points, what's been done on the Wii in such a short time is darn impressive though. The one thing I don't know about the Wii that would probably sell me on using it more for emulation if if there's SCUMM for it, that would be great.

For those of you who have experienced the quality of the homebrew emulators available for each console, which would be better? I am only looking for 16 bit era and below emulation, N64 if possible. I am most interested in info Sega CD and TurboGrafx CD emulators, since I can't find much feedback online, but any info on other systems (Gen, SNES, NES, SMS) is much appreciated
use the following emulators on xbox
for nes emulation use medanafenx-nes v10 this also emulates the famicom disc system.
for snes emulation use zsnexbox 3.5.
for sega cd use neogenesis 2.3 this plays segacd/megadrive/32x.
for sega master system use mekax.
for pc engine use medanafenx-pce this plays pc engine/pc engine cd/supergraphx.
for arcade emualtion use coinops reignite r3 and final burn legends.
final burn legends was released today and for the first time on xbox you can play all the fd encrypted sega games like turbo ourun, cotton,ab cop....also you can play powerdrift, galaxy force2 and thunderblade for the first time.
the legend will never die!

the Xbox is perfectly suited for emulating a vast array of games (which has already been mention); and add to that, if you purchase 2 USB "ports" for you Xbox (I got mine for free, they're dirt cheap) and all of the sudden you can add mouse/keyboard to your Xbox

since I emulate Amiga 500/600/1200, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, etc. and use the AmigaOS on my Xbox, a mouse/keyboard accessory is right up my alley

add to that DosBox and you can enjoy playing games like Wasteland, *insert generic text-adventure here*, Cannon fodder, etc., etc., etc

add to that Linux

and of course, there is the option of buying a (3rd party) controller-"port", which can allow you to use (amongst others) a PS2 joypad and you're good to go

I got my PS2/Xbox joypad converter with a steering-wheel I purchased

and since you can remap all the keys on the controller with just about any emulator, there's little-to-no-hassle
C-64 will never die
- only the players

Well, there you have it. X-Box wins by an even larger margin!

Why didn't you just do a batch rename? That seems like the biggest waste of time I've ever heard. In OS X I'd just automate it with a shell script. It's even easier with Name Mangler. You can remove a certain amount of characters and offset the beginning of the name so you can remove useless information like codec and ripping group, EG H264-CTU without removing the useful bits. I don't know of a similar tool for windows but I'd be quite confident there is some way of automating it with batch, which is a sort of the windows version of bash/shell script.
