Re: Games that you've just given up on
Metroid Prime. As a Gamecube fan, I really ought to beat this gam at some point, but some of the puzzles get too confusing, and degenerate to just looking around every corner of every room to find something that may be used as a switch. The serious lack of save points doesn't help.
Re: Games that you've just given up on
The Trauma Center games on DS. Only ONE difficulty in the first game (HARD!!!!) and a ridiculous learning curve in the second game, even on easy mode! I ended up using infinite life codes on the first game just so I could finish it... and may have to do the same for the second.
I so desperately want to know how the story ends, and I'll never get there otherwise, so using codes doesn't bother me.
Also the Pokemon Ranger games - for some Pokemon it's darn near impossible to draw however many circles around them because of all the crazy stuff they do to not get caught... ugh. But I still like the games and want to know how they end...
... This is more like, "Games you really like but aren't skilled enough to finish!"

Final Fantasy XII. I really wanted to like this, but despite really liking a lot of the ideas it presented, the whole game just feels unfinished and is WAY too grindy for my tastes. Not to mention the irrelevant protagonist and goes-nowhere plot doesn't help much for me.
Re: Games that you've just given up on
Ghosts n' Goblins NES - What do you mean I didn't beat the game? I just beat the game.
Twilight Princess GC - I need to get back on this, I just got frustrated on the part where the carriage is on fire.
Sword of Sodan Genesis - I don't see any real reason to play it anymore.
Batman Dark Tomorrow xbox - " "
Tomcat alley Sega CD - I can barely get past the first ten minutes.

Golden Sun - (GBA) -This was the second RPG I had ever really gotten into. The giant octopus on the way across the ocean. I kept dying over and over again. I put it down for a few months, only to die.... over and over again. Eventually I got to the point to where I was like screw it, I'm gonna play a game I can actually beat.
Driver 2 - (PS1) -A friend and myself tried non stop for 3 weekends trying to get past a pursuit mission... could not f***ing beat it.
Red Dead Revolver - (PS2) - Got to the end of the game. But for some reason, my memory card would crash between every single save I ever made on that game. I got to the second to last guy, saved.. went to kill the last guy, and *CrAsH*... never had the energy to go back and do it all over again.

Ninja Gaiden Black-Way to damn hard!
Panzer Dragoon Saga-Ugly graphics overrated RPG
Shikigami No Shiro 3-Not for the lack of trying just seems I can just get to the last level and run out of lives. A incredibly hard shmup when you try to 1 cred.
Devil May Cry 2 , 3 & 4- Played through most of the game and just gave up at some point. Lost patience.
Dead Rising-Crap camera and boring progression
I am sure there are thousands others.

Re: Games that you've just given up on
I must admit that it is rare that I ever see the end of a game, and this has been the case for some years. I am a huge game fan, and do spend considerable amounts of time and money on games both new and old, but never really play anything until its bitter end. The last games I do remeber beating were the Gears of War games, and this, I believe is testimony to their artistry, strorytelling and game design. Things have changed though with gamers of the 80s and 90s having matured into disposable incoming earning adults. No longer do we have to wait for birthdays, or xmas or save and scrimp pocket money to get the latest console releases then pore over every screen, every secret, every ending until we could afford our next gaming experience. It is perhaps the sheer volume of games on the sheers number of platforms now available to us that means I no longer sit with any game until the end.

I've heard this sentiment a lot around here as well. I also seem to bounce from one game to another often, but always have one game that it is my sights to complete. I'm looking at you Blaster Master Overdrive.

FFXII was another game that I got at launch and regrettably so. It just didn't click with me the way FFX did. I doubt I'll be playing any other FFs anyway.
I'm thinking of getting rid of NG2 its cheap bosses are such a turn-off.
I have no qualms about cheating to get past the games that I want to see through, but those bloody achievements have cracked down hard on cheating and its peripherals. Bloody achievements in videogames. Maybe if you get paid for them...

Re: Games that you've just given up on
There are a ton. I'm on a game-beating kick lately, though (with time out for Lent-- no games for me until Easter), so I hope to put some of these behind me soon.
NES:
Double Dragon II -- I could get to the very last guy (level 9) on the highest difficulty, but never beat him.
Zelda II -- Kept dying on the way to the last level and then I guess I got distracted.
Mega Man III -- I played this a decent bit when I was little, but never got that far.
Since I just knocked out Mega Man and Mega Man 2, I expect I can handle this one now.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -- I could get though the dam level an barely take a hit, but I never really got a whole lot further. I don't remember ever finding any scrolls or the rope.
Astyanax -- I think I got to the second-to-last level in this one, but never beat it.
Mega Man 6 -- I got through the Mr. X levels, but then got pissed off that there was an entire Wily's Fortress waiting for me and no password, so I turned the game off and never turned it back on again.
Crystalis -- I don't remember how far I got, but it was pretty far and I stopped for some reason.
Karnov -- This one isn't ridiculously difficult, but I never beat it. I think I got to the second-to-last level boss and don't remember why I stopped playing. I probably got distracted by a new game.
Gameboy
Kirby's Dreamland 2 -- I got about halfway through this game and just lost interest. I should probably try to beat it, though.
Solar Striker -- Once again, I could get to the second-to-last boss and then I just gave up because it got too difficult for me.
SMS
R-Type -- This game is hard!!! I think I only ever got to the beginning of the fourth level (the level after you kill that huge ship by blowing up its engine). Once those guys who leave trails you can't fly through showed up, I was toast.
SNES
Super Castlevania IV -- I could get to the boss that is the ghost of the dancing couple, but I never beat them, then I got distracted with another game.
ActRaiser -- Got to the last boss, but never beat him. I think I then got distracted by another game.
N64
Quest 64 -- I've started this game twice, but then had to quit before I finished both times. I think I'll be able to pick it up and continue with my last save from last summer, though, since I remember a little more about what's going on this time. I think I'm about seven hours in.
Diddy Kong Racing -- I think I got stuck on one of the mirrored snow races where you have to collect five coins and still come in first to get a balloon. How many balloons do you need to beat the game, anyway?
PC
Gobliins 2 -- I got pretty far in this one before getting stuck and not finishing. If I can find it again, I hope to beat it.
Ultima: Underworld -- I got a few levels into this one before I had to stop playing for some reason or another. Maybe I again got distracted, or maybe my frugality with torches inhibited my progress.
The 11th Hour -- I beat The 7th Guest only a couple of years ago (I didn't know you could finish the game without beating the microscope puzzle, and that one was essentially unplayable on my copy on my modern computer). I had previously started this one, but wanted to wait until I had finished the 7th Guest. I guess I can give it another shot now.
Star Trek 25th Anniversary -- I got to the last space fight and never could beat it.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert -- I got pretty far on the GDI side, but never finished this game.
Riven -- I blew through Myst in a few days. I thought this one was a bit harder. I need to go back and try to finish it.
Johnny Mnemonic -- I never got through the invisible mazes in the room where you do all of the virtual reality gameshow stuff. That was just a really stupid puzzle, imo.
