Messy room games

Why on earth are hidden object games so prevalent in the casual games market?

It's like playing a virtual game of "Where the hell did I leave my car keys after that crazy drunken mess of a party I had last night." That's a hassle, not a game. I don't understand why anyone would want to play that. Yet, these kinds of games seem to be popping up as frequently as MahJongg and Match-3 puzzle games in super market PC shelves everywhere.

I try to keep my room tidy because I hate looking at a mess and I hate not being able to find things I need because they're out of place. Whenever I see a screenshot like this, I just wonder what the hell motivates people to torture themselves with these awful games.

....theses games aren't awful. They're just(as you even said) casual games. My girlfriend and I play every new Mystery Case Files game and we have a great time. Perhaps these seek and find games are not for you.

My Mom's addicted to these, most of her friends too. Guess they're girl-games.

Its a bit off topic but this reminds me of the who wants to be a millionaire computer game this was one of the biggest selling games of all time in the uk I think.Game was just answering multi choice questions.

To answer your question people are lazy want a quick and easy game to play.I also would not give those games the time of day.
GOT,ps2 chiped,,game cube sliver,x box,dream cast,n 64,ps2 slim,ps2 slim,game boy sp X2 tribal and black,game gear,saturn(no tv lead),xbox 360,xbox 360 chipped,snes.master system 1and 2.

HAD BACK IN THE DAY vic 20,sega master system,nes,mega drive,super nes,atari st,amiga 500+,ps1,gameboy advance.

Same here. However my mum gets kudos for completing every new Zelda before I do. She's also into the Ace Attorney series and is looking forward to getting the new Miles Edgeworth game.

I can understand wanting to play an easy-to-pick-up casual game. I like Peggle, Bejeweled, etc. and I can understand why they have mass appeal. These hidden object games are just an eyesore though and the central premise sounds like a chore. I just don't understand why the masses want to play find the needle in the haystack.
