Metroid Retrospective Part 5 is out

Post by Mozgus »

This is easily the best part

Covers Zero Mission, Samus' backstory, and the timeline of the games. I've gained a lot of respect for GT due to these video series. The editing is top notch, the narrator works, they use awesome fan remixes of the tunes, they go back and actually play the games fully to acquire varied clips, and they hardly ever get their facts wrong. They started off rough with their Zelda Retrospectives, but Metroid and Final Fantasy have been given amazing treatment.

That's cool.
I wish they would have a high quality version for download though. These type of features could be a good replacement for G4's old Icons series

Agreed, these retrospectives (and the ones for the Final Fantasy and Zelda series') has really increased my respect for GT. Very good narration and excellent overviews of the high and low points of each title. I missed out on G4TV's Icons series, except for one I caught on YouTube about the Dreamcast. That episode was particularly good. Pity the rest of the network wasn't so great.

I used to sing praise for Icons, but I recently downloaded season 1 and I gatta say, they get their facts wrong VERY often. They also make tons of other types of mistakes, like playing clips from the wrong games, and always over-generalizing information, or stretching the truth for the sake of entertainment or cliffhangers between commercial breaks.

Also, apparently Icons isn't about gaming Icons anymore. Check IMDB for the newest season's episode titles:

Looks like one of the early Season 6 episodes covered everyone's favorite goth porn site: Suicide Girls. Wow, what happened?

Yeah, I noticed that as well, but at least it was entertaining.
As for now, G4 happened. They've moved from a gaming focus to "18-35 Male Entertainment" focus.
