Just painted an agetec, w/pics

Post by skate323k137 »

I decided one of my agetecs would look better black. I had heard good things about krylon fusion, and gave it a shot. I have very little experience painting, this is my first time doing anything like this, and I think it turned out amazing.

Tape and paint. It took a few coats but wait time was minimal.

done!

The rest of the family. The agetec w/blue buttons is wired for saturn. The other unmodified agetec, and ascii stick below it are my next projects, along with putting sanwa buttons and a new joystick in this stick.

Wow, that's a lot of arcade sticks. I just recently was able to find an Agetec DC stick for relatively cheap [$20], and am planning on picking up an awesome PS2/GC/Xbox arcade stick today for about 60. The thing looks like it was ripped right out of an arcade cabinet. Anyway, great job on all those sticks. No go play a few SHMUP's and fighters to see how they play.

$20 is a steal, usually agetecs are 40-60 or more after shipping. If you need any parts I have like two spare sets of buttons (although with a dremmel upgrading to sanwas isn't too hard.) Is that ps2/gc/xbox stick a MAS systems like the one in the upper left of my picture? Those sticks are so awesome, sadly they don't make them with GC support anymore. I'll never let mine go, it was my first custom stick, and likely the only one I'll never modify as it's wired for PS2, DC, and GCN.

Came out looking really nice. One suggestion for next time though is to have the shell off the ground so you don't have to worry about it sticking to whatever its sitting on. If you use an empty food box, you can get the shell off the ground so the bottom edges are floating free. Lost within laughed at me last time, but pop tarts boxes are good since they're a bit more square and sturdy but a couple of other skinny boxes taped together would work too. :)

As an example:

Thank you, that's the exact kind of input I hoped for. Next time I'll definitely elevate it with your technique, it will make it easier to not overdo the paint while trying to get coverage on the bottom edge.

Thanks!

As far as DC sticks go, an Agetec in good shape will serve you very well. It's very hard to get a "good" saturn stick without making or modifying one. The japanese version virtua stick was the best 'stock' stick, but is ungodly costly nowadays and also quite hard to modify. The nice thing is a good custom saturn stick can adapt to DC and kill two birds with one stone. If you need help picking one out or customizing it, I'm sure everyone here would be more than happy to help out.

Nice job on the Agetec! looks better black. I wanted one before, but I mostly play on my Arcade machine which has NullDC with Sanwa sticks and arcade buttons so I don't have a need one now. I'll probably go back to playing on my DC when I get more room for my consoles, right now its way too crowded.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

I agree, they do look much better w/a black case. What are the specs on your NullDC PC? I've been meaning to do that for some time (throw together a box for DC emulation), it sounds like an awesome idea.
