similar problem here. just picked up a gameboy w/super mario land, tetris and power rangers with neat hard carrying case for $10 off of craigslist. i popped batteries in, got the power light, but no sound or picture. after opening it up, the power cable wasn't seated right. I have sound now, but no picture. looking into it further.

p.s. i found this a little helpful.

it looks like one of the 50v capacitors that sits behind the lcd screen was damaged on mine. it's just a guess, but maybe that's why no screen???? anyone know how hard it would to fix???

Very likely that's the cause. If you can find a matching replacement and have a small low power soldering iron, just remove and pop in the new one. Make sure polarity is the same when you put the new one in.
