Isn't Morrigan just Ryu with boobs?

Yeah, gameplay-wise, she is. (Actually, she's more like Ken, while Demitri is more like Ryu.)

But that doesn't matter. She doesn't look like Ryu. Most people won't play a fighting game unless it has familiar characters in it. It's the whole reason most people are getting turned off of Tatsunoko vs Capcom - and the only way I can get people interested in it is when I say "Ryu, Chun Li and Alex are in it."

I always thought the marvel characters had a lot to do with the versus games' popularity. Ryu, Chun Li and the like were known amongst gamers, but Spidey, Wolvie and others brought a whole bunch more people to the games. Plus, the Xmen and Marvel Super Heroes games I remember being pretty popular before we even got the versus games

I took this round my sister's house - she's an almost total non gamer who just got a wii at christmas to do wii sports and wii fit - anyway, she used the simple controls and I was using normal controls on the classic controller. After learning the basic mechanics (which took about 10 mins tops) she was pretty much up to speed and we had an awesome little gaming session! It's weird fighting someone with the simple controls because they just constantly bash out super and hyper moves - she got the hang of character assists and swapping as well. Never in a million years did I think I would be playing a proper fighting game with my sister! I do think that all this casual gaming stuff is BS, but somehow with Wii being 'accessible' and the simple controls, Capcom and Nintendo have managed to subvert, if not convert, an otherwise normal member of society. Nice one!

I do think it helped that this seems to be one of the best examples of the genre, and all of the over the top crazyness as well :)

You probably have a point... although X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes never got very popular around here - it wasn't until X-Men vs Street Fighter that it actually took off like a rocket. Also, I remember a lot of people who played X-Men used to just use Akuma anyway... of course, that's probably just because people are cheap all over.

The simplified controls explain why I am no good online. Not that I have a job and a life.

Odd, I have an easier time saying you can play as Ken the Eagle than anything else in getting people to play. Ive gotten alot of my friends who havent played a fighter since the early 90s to play TvC because they can play as characters we use to watch as kids. I guess it just breaks down to different demographics (most of my friends are late 20s early 30s and we grew up watching Battle of the Planets/Gforce/Gatchaman). I still question why and how they released it over here.

Finally got a Wii and Tatsunoko vs Capcom last night. Yay!

Unfortunately (for the Wii/TvC), I also got a whole bunch of other stuff too, like a Turbo Grafx 16 w/ Side-Arms. I've kinda been rolling in gaming goodness lately.

Anyway, Tatsunoko vs Capcom is really fun. Haven't decided on which characters I'm going to main yet.
