SNES all the way! I'm biased since I grew up playing in the early 1990's, but you can't go wrong with SNES.

Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country 1-3 is worth it already.

I'm going to have to disagree on the SNES, as I feel the NES was overall a better console.

The Genesis really stole some third party thunder from the SNES, while the NES was almost unrivaled in it's time. You have an amazing library of games for the NES, with far more great titles to choose from. If you're main concern is RPGs though, then the SNES would be a better choice.

Check out this list to get a good idea of what the NES offers...

SMW was the first game I ever played, so I would have to tell you to get a SNES.

However, most members posting are right, SNES games can be a bit more expensive. Though they are completely worth it.

I just recent bought another SNES about a year ago, All stars + SMW was the pack in for it.

Twas the most happiest of days.

Think I might go with the SNES then. It was my first console as well but then it broke a while back. So it is down to the SNES and Sega Saturn. Oh the choices!

I agree, go with the SNES. It actually does have the best library of games ever made. It's the console with the most best games.

It is all a matter of preference, but I break it down like this.

SNES= better RPG games
NES= better platforming and action games

Whatever style of games you prefer will decide which system you go with. I personally hate RPG's so NES wins hands down for me.

Toss a coin. Either system will leave you as a happy gamer.

I believe there is a higher quantity of classic good games on the NES. Just think about some of the games- Metroid, Kid Icarus, Ninja Gaiden 1-3, Castlevania 1-3, Super Mario Bros 1-3, Battletoads, The Legend of Zelda 1-2, etc.

There is a lot of utter garbage that got released on that system too though. A bad game on the NES is usually worse than a bad game on the SNES.

SNES graphics have definitely aged better. The colors pop and they still look good today. Arguably, the sound has aged better on the SNES too, though 8-bit Nintendo kind of sounds more like what people think videogames are supposed to sound like (beep boop beep), so the sound hasn't really aged that poorly and in some cases is preferable.

SNES also has a strong supply of great games. It's true that the RPGs are generally better on the SNES. It does have some great action games too, like UN Squadron, Cybernator, Super Metroid, Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, etc.

Basically, you can't make a wrong choice. Game on. :D
