elvis' advice is sound indeed.
Nowadays the major risk is from the OS itself, your computer can be compromised through no fault of your own. Postponing system updates can prove disastrous. Avira is pretty good and there's a little tweak that can get rid of its nagging adverts. Spybot S&D is also essential but you have to schedule system checks on your own.
And call me crazy but I still use IE8 simply because it blends with the rest of the OS. Firefox feels like I'm using a whole different OS. Is there a web browser that offers better system integration than Firefox/Chrome?

Well, not entirely, but you know its bad when to get rid of Norton you have to do the normal Windows uninstall, then even know about and go get a special tool from them to actually finish removing it from your system.bacteria wrote:I tried Norton a couple of times in the past, hated it - made system unstable and also big memory hog. It also grabs your OS by the nuts so the only way to uninstall it properly is to reformat and reinstall the OS from scratch!

That's why I will never use their products, it sounds similar to a case of bad DRM. It can act as a rootkit or malware on your pc, and is a big hassle to remove. Also, it is completely hidden from the user.Hobie-wan wrote:Well, not entirely, but you know its bad when to get rid of Norton you have to do the normal Windows uninstall, then even know about and go get a special tool from them to actually finish removing it from your system.bacteria wrote:I tried Norton a couple of times in the past, hated it - made system unstable and also big memory hog. I use Firefox on the PC and happy with it. On the Mac, Safari is great, better then Firefox! I think there is a Safari for the PC as well.Pulsar_t wrote:elvis' advice is sound indeed.
