NES or SNES
NES or SNES
I was thinking of starting off a collection on one of these two systems. Really looking to play some of the classics and some RPGs. Was wondering which one is cheaper to collect for? Maybe I should just emulate them and collect something like the Sega Saturn?

Re: NES or SNES
NES should be much cheaper to collect for, though I guess it depends on what genre of games you like and if you plan on getting them complete in box with all inserts and advertisements. With both systems this can get expensive because they used cardboard boxes. Most of the best NES games can be had cartridge-only for very reasonable amounts, maybe in the $5 to $10 range. Where I think most of the best SNES stuff would be in the $10-$20 range (and then more for the RPGs).
Sega Saturn would be the most expensive to collect for, especially as it seems that most of the games worth playing need to be imported.

SNES. It's the greatest console ever made.
Also, it has a much broader RPG selection than the NES does.

If you want RPG, then go SNES all the way
Saturn isn't worth it, at least, if you don't have an NES or SNES yet.

What systems do you have if you don't already have a NES or SNES?
I have had better luck finding working SNES than working NES.

SNES all the way. In my eyes, it is the one generation with graphics that don't seem to age in any way. NES? You know its old, and most games look really dated. PSX and the such? The 3D models HAVE NOT dated very well. SNES? For some inexplicable reason, they have enough detail and color and games that can tide over the most ADD riddled child of today for hours. SNES.
Oh yeah, make sure you get Super Mario All Stars w/ Super Mario World. BAM! Start off with five KICK ASS games in one cartridge!

My year and a half old son prefers watching me play SNES or Genesis games, he will sit still and watch them like they are cartoons. Modern games... yeah he does not dig those too much.

Re: NES or SNES
It honestly depends which system has more games you would rather play. If there are more games you want for NES than SNES then get an NES, or vice versa.
NES, SNES, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GCN, Wii, PS3, 360, GB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, PSP 3000, and 3DS XL

Its a shame the best RPGs on the SNES never came to the english speaking world. You may want to consider emulation to play these fan translated RPGs on the SNES. www.romhacking.net would be a great place to look if you want to play these awesome games, theres tons of them and are must play games for any RPG lover. If you want good RPGs, SNES is the clear choice. The NES has lots of must play RPGs as well, but the SNES has the NES beat hands down in terms of quality RPGs.

Man, I miss the old Nintendo. You'll never see a deal as good as All Stars + World was ever again. Metroid Trilogy was close, but in terms of sheer greatness and value, Allstars + World was unbeatable.Devezu wrote:Oh yeah, make sure you get Super Mario All Stars w/ Super Mario World. BAM!
