Sega Saturn disc tray open problem

Post by crackoaf »

Hello! My problem is that my saturn will randomly interrupt play of games to announce that the disc tray is open. Then it will quickly recognize that the disc tray is closed and allow me to resume play. Now this is rather annoying as I just lost an hour and a half of game progress a couple times to this malady. I should say also that I have modified the saturn to perform the swap trick, but I am not swapping any games. I am playing a regulation saturn disc. I tried to go in and retape the switch that convinces the saturn the tray is always closed and this seemed to remedy things for a while. Is it just a problem with the switch or has my swapping perhaps burned the system out a bit. Thank you in advance for any help on this matter

It sounds like a problem with the switch.

If you don't mind making it permanently modified for swapping you can go in and tear the switch out and solder the two points together so it stays closed at all times. That or just find out why the switch keeps sliding open... tape isn't the most perfect of adhesives.

Off topic but similar:
I have a Sega CD (model 2) that would only work with the top case removed. I found out that theres some kind of problem with the switch, and I had to remove the disc cover so that it would read discs
