Does the hunt on piracy piss off anyone else here?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The suggested abbreviation is "WP".
Wikipedia doesn't like being called wiki, it prefers WP.

That's the stupidest thing I've heard all day, and I've been talking and listening to myself all day.
Of all the words to associate wikipedia with, I thought "pretentious" would be the last one to come to mind.

I don't see it as pretentious at all. I couldn't think of a good analogy, but I think a decent one is posted on that page.

Calling Wikipedia "wiki" or "the wiki" for short is kind of like calling George W. Bush "human" or "the human" for short. Or it's like saying "soda" and expecting people to know that you're referring to Dr. Pepper.

Come on! Now you are just not making any sense. It isn't the same thing at all. At least if you call "Wikipedia" "the wiki" you are in the same ballpark. It would be more like calling GWB a chimp for short.

If anyone has a reason to pirate, this would be it. I'm all for legit copies and almost never pirate anything, but it's shit like this that makes me want to. Didn't any of these idiots learn from EA and Spore?

you think this is bad? I bought a game and I couldn't play it because I don't live in one of the countries that MS (the S stands for shit) thinks deserve to play the games they've bought.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2. And I'm not talking just about multiplayer. I couldn't even play the single player game. I had to forge an identity to be allowed to play the game I FREAKING PAYED FOR.

Really this is the only industry that takes shit like this. When Sony put DRM on their cds they got sued and forced to pay a lot of mine back to the consumers.

But they treat us gamers like shit. Most likely because video games are still considered children's toys

Entries like these completely support my argument. Thank you wiki.

But you haven't actually presented an argument...

Does that mean that I can download whatever data I find on your computer? What about if I were to download some 0s and 1s from your bank account to mine?
Well, I was obviously talking about media. Of course it should be illegal to rob a bank...

Let's not entirely blame the developers.

If simple forms of DRM weren't cracked by selfish pirates, we wouldn't have to deal with the overbearing, ridiculous DRM they have to try now.

If the PC industry wasn't declining (and it has been, for quite some time) because of piracy, we wouldn't need DRM. PC retail sales were down 23% in 2009. That's crazy. 2008 was down 14% from 2007. And 2007 was down 6% from 2006. Digital distribution isn't enough to explain this, especially when the game industry (except for 2009) has been growing rapidly. The piracy rates are ridiculously high for PC games.

Place the blame first where it belongs: pirates. Then developers. The consumer that buys it gets screwed by both, like some kind of collateral damage in a war.
