Does the hunt on piracy piss off anyone else here?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Hail,
You certainly aren't stupid, your great mods show that. But please don't cite wiki as a valid source.

Now, to be far, he was only citing wikipedia as to the definition of bit-rot, which I think is fair to assume as correct.

If anyone has a reason to pirate, this would be it. I'm all for legit copies and almost never pirate anything, but it's shit like this that makes me want to. Didn't any of these idiots learn from EA and Spore?

Ubisoft's DRM is way over the top. It won't take long before it's cracked though.

True, but y point is that DRM like this is unfortunately what's driving a large segment of people to do stuff like pirate games just so that they can actually play them in a functional manner.

Saw this story on kotaku...totally ridiculous. How can anyone think this is a good idea?

This will get cracked, and pirates will have a superior version of the product, while legitimate consumers get screwed over.
Again.
Because it happens EVERY FUCKING TIME.

This goes back to my argument way back in the first few pages of this thread (If you can remember that far back, it was like a week ago) where it's the fact that the pirates are coming out with the superior product time and time again, because it doesn't have DRM. You are free to do with it what you please. It's this kind of crippling DRM that is hurting the industry more and driving people to pirate. Why do you think Spore was one of the most pirated games in history? It was overpriced for a PC game, but more than that, it was hideously crippled by terrible DRM. Essentially you were paying to rent the game from EA, you could only install it 3 times. After that you had to go to EA to beg them for another install licence.

If video games companies are going to stick with DRM then they need to offer a better solution. Such as the PACE interlok. I have one of these for all my audio plugin licences. It allows me to have an interlok USB key with all my licences (backed up on the interlok website and with the original software vendor) to all my software that I can take with me and use on any system. All I have to do is download the trial and plug my key in and it will unlock full functionality while ever I have my interlok inserted into the system. Think of it like a steam account but on an encrypted USB key rather than a UN/PW combination. It doesn't require an internet connection and is a hell of a lot more convenient.

You have to be kidding me.

I can cite at least 20 websites with the same definition. It was cited because it was the easiest most convenient site to quote from.

So please don't be stupid yourself Luke. :D

Never called you stupid, and never meant to insult you.
That said, people shouldn't cite wiki as a valid source. Elementary school teachers won't accept it as a valid source, I don't either.
