Do agree with the flop of FF: Spirits Within and the PS3 USD $600 (or 599.99) launch price.

But would like to add that Sega almost fades away completely after Dreamcast (no more good Sonic games, no more NFL 2K series, and almost nothing else!); Sony's PSP losing to Nintendo DS; games becoming "franchised" (i.e. fewer "original" games, or according to Mega64.com, same old "s**t")

I think it does point out the low points of the last ten years, any other thoughts?

I really wanted to like Final Fantasy: Spirit Within. I really did.

The CGI was amazing. The Final Fantasy Franchise was at high point as they transitioned to the PS2. The story just sucked so hard. There was also quite a bit of 'uncanny valley' going on.

Pretty accurate list. Although, I wonder if Duke Nukem is kind of like the equivalent of a Rock n Roll suicide-- we will always remember it for its potential to be great. If it had actually come out, there is a good chance it wouldn't have stood up to comparisons of our nostalgia flooded memories for Duke 3D and others. Plus, with 10 years behind it, gamers were expecting something so big that it would have been impossible to ever live up to the hype. Perhaps it's better this way.

1up knocked the Gamecube to Game Boy Advance link, Hey! I like Pacman VS!

A mention of Red Ring on 360 but no word about BRICKING (Is this the ugly new word for Webster's) of PS3 Yellow LIGHT OF DEATH or W11 bricking.

A PS3 during an online to Sony System Update.

---------------------------------------------

An added thought flop, I love the Dreamcast but Sega's biggest flop was not making Dreamcast DVD compatible, not releasing Propeller Arena and Half life.

Are either of those anywhere near as wide-spread as the RROD?

Not where I live, they aren't. Granted, all of my friends have 360s while only about six or seven of my friends have PS3s... but it really says something when only one of those friends hasn't had the RROD, and some of them have had it happen multiple times.

My friend Greg had it happen six times. Six freakin' times, two of which were with known Jasper units. And all times, it happened in a very well ventilated room. That's... wow.

Ahhh yes, I remember my RROD experience with extreme clarity. It was right after I sat down to play some Fable 2. Much raging commenced.

I have another one now (which is interesting to note, because sooo many gamers bought another 360 after their first one RR'd, something like 25% if I remember correctly) and I have an extreme distaste for it. Whenever I think of dropping $60 on a new game I'm always afraid my X-Box will kill itself.

So instead I spend $60 on boxed copies of Genesis games, yay!

My PS3 Brick happened DURING a System update direct from Sony. They were kind enough to send me a shipping box for repair for only 162 bucks.

The PS3 also had a Red Ring Oh Crap in its blue tooth ear piece. Had to pair up few times to get it to work again .........

Sony's PSP losing to Nintendo DS
I don't see that as a misstep. Nintendo has owned the portable arena since the Game Boy launched. I don't think Sony honestly expected to beat Nintendo; they just wanted a share of the pie. It's like the most recent crop of MMOs; they don't try to beat WoW, they just want what's left.
My PS3 Brick happened DURING a System update direct from Sony.
Which doesn't indicate anything about the failure rate. Simply that the PS3 and the Wii can fail. So can a PC during a Windows update. Hardware fails. The 360 is notorious about it, though.

Oh, but the irony to be bricked during that update direct from Sony.

Yeah, I had my Wii 'fail' on me. In a way. I got Smash Bros Melee stuck in it, and had to ship it off to Nintendo to get it out for $125. I could still play the system - it wasn't like the system bricked, but I'd still say it's pretty bad when all you can play is one Gamecube game and Virtual Console games for about a month.

Does it suck? Yes. Does it mean that a Wii has a greater chance of failing than a PS3, just because my Wii failed and my PS3 hasn't yet? No.

IIRC, Sega already had the GD-ROM for the NAOMI and just used that for the Dreamcast.
not releasing Propeller Arena and Half life.
I don't know about Propeller Arena, but I think that Valve pulled the plug on Half-Life for the Dreamcast.
