Am I the only one that is....Done?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Amen for Duke. Remember Shadow Warrior, the other ridiculous FPS by 3d Realms? I will always remember when I picked up a fourtune cookie(for + 50 health) and it read, "Baseball wrong. A man with four ball cannot walk."

Fucking epic, yet that game probably offended more that a few Asian-Americans.

I wasn't just talking about Duke, but yes, Amen for Duke. ;)

I remember seeing it a while ago, I never played it. I'll pick it up if it comes on GOG, Steam, or has a Source Port. (which it probably does)

Oh.......

I saw pigs and thought Duke, but I guess Doom had pigs too. As for Shadow Warrior, if you ever get a chance give it a try. It uses the D3D engine, but puts swords, shurikens and blow guns in the picture and is just as funny, if not more than Duke 3d. Probably not as great as I say, but the beer goggles of nostalgia block that from my memory. :D

When I mentioned Pigs, I was thinking of Duke, when I mentioned Aliens, I was thinking of the Quake series.

I knew it used the Build Engine, 3DR used the Build Engine until they moved to the Quake 2 engine when they started Duke Nukem For Never. ...That bad joke made me sad. :(

I'm sure it's a great game. :)

Ahhh! FPS confusion!

I guess violent games have been around for much longer than the OP suggested. Thats all I wanted to prove.

I sometimes wish realistic violence in video games was as pervasive as everyone - especially the media - make it out to be.

Wouldn't it be great if this was how the number one game of this generation looked?

Generalizations annoy me to no end, so I am glad you guys brought out the numbers to squash this bug so to speak.

I think it is safe to say that right now in the world of video gaming there truly is something for everyone. The diversity of genres and content as well as broad audience appeal is better than I can ever recall and I have been playing games since I got my Atari 2600 when I was a kid. With the popularity of hand held systems including phones now becoming portable gaming devices, downloadable games via the various consoles, and general renewed interest in retro styling gaming there is certainly enough content out there that isn't reveling in endless bloodshed and could certainly appeal to your specific tastes. Life is too short to be wasting energy bashing what others enjoy, find the content you DO enjoy yourself. Personally, I love playing lighthearted games that are more akin to my childhood but at the same I also enjoy pumping lead into hordes of baddies. Video games are entertainment- an unwind from the stress, the 9-5 grind, bills, etc. and we all have different ways of being entertained. And video games just like music, movies, TV, sports teams, etc. everyone doesn't have the same interests. Find what you do like and enjoy the heck out of it not worrying what someone else may enjoy.

I'm just sick of how most of the popular, big-hit games are always fronted by some sort of anti-hero (keep in mind I said most). That stopped being a novelty awhile ago. I want a merry, very likable protagonist. While I do admire a game that does it tastefully, when your every hero is smoking a cigar and cursing.. meh, it gets boring for me.

That is exactly what I was trying to say.

These things go in cycles. I remember when it used to be that every game had an upbeat protagonist who was usually some kind of anthropomorphic animal. Whatever's popular gets imitators until it gets saturated and some new archetype comes along.
