However, I'm not sure what the symptoms of the ribbon cable problem are, so that could in fact be the problem, could that cause color problems, or a lack of audio? And assuming that is the problem, does the 32x require any special tools to open?
Just a normal phillips to open it up. Does the picture change when you bend the middle of the cable or the end where it plugs into the 32x? If the latter, it could be a broken joint where the plug attaches to the board or a problem with a pin on the cable.

As for the ribbons inside, just unplug them, check for any corrosion and clean off as necessary and be careful you don't bend them when replugging.

Found "Evolution" for Dreamcast the other day for a $1.60 at the thrift store. Sweet.

I found a blue debug station PS1 at my local Swap Meet for only 10 bux. Now I know you don't see these out in the wild so I was pretty excited. I don't know if it works yet as it is PAL region and I don't wanna blow up the power supply. I have a few spare PS1's that Im going to use to swap the internal power supply. Now I only have to find a way to connect this to a display that can input PAL sources.

Just got back from the local flea market for probably the 12th time in a row without finding anything. Anything at all.

I guess I just need to stop going, but everytime I stop going, one of my friends will go and pick up Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and god knows what else for $5 a piece. It's a conundrum, but I guess since lightning never strikes for me I should just give it up. It's just a waste of gas at this point.
I'm the same way. Not just with games, but with everything flea markety. It seems the second i stop going, friends find the rarest things.

Either that, or i end up going and find something every time for a month. Hot and cold man. hot and cold.

Wrong, Samsung actually manufactured a TV for America that was designed to take every known common input, Scart/RGB, AV/RCA, S-Video, Component, VGA and DVI (Sorry but no native HDMI so you'll have to use an HDMI to DVI adapter) and accepts signals from all currently known Analog and Digital standards meaning it's 100% Pal, NTSC, Secam etc... etc.... compatible.

Here's a link to the Samsung display I'm talking about:

As for the power supply then yes, you can simply swap the internal power supply from an American PS1 into it as long as it's in the same model series.
