Well the best thing I, or anyone else, can tell you is have the game grow onto you. The best approach to do this is to look for the things that you liked about the 2D games and have that happy memory fuel your gears to keep going. Best example was music. When you get to Magmoor Caverns, Super Metroid music started to play. It was the best music in that game and to hear it again a few years later got me going. The story of all three games (prime games I mean) are actually good. Its a game where you need dedication of time to fully benefit what its bringing to the table for the franchise. By no means "pick up, and play."

One thing beats Phendrana. And that's Phendrana as done by Metroid Metal.

Oh, and Kraid's Hideout in all its forms. First time I got down there as a kid the music told me "You are in a bad place that is going to kick your ass over and over".

I never liked it either; my friends would rant and rave about it.. but I never enjoyed it.
