College
College
After a year or two of it I've reached the conclusion that the point of college is to teach you how to be good at college.

Re: College
I thought it was a bit of a joke. I've had more success leaving college and working a regular job. Its less about teaching and more about teaching yourself, at least in my experience. They often tell you to read so many chapters of the text. I could have done that on my own.
During lectures, things felt more like a discussion than me being taught anything. It was always the same throughout all of school.

Just what I'm looking forward too, more spoon-feeding. I already get enough of this shit in high school and now your telling me there's more?!
Re: College
Around your 3rd year you'll learn that your professors don't always know everything, and you'll start doing projects for yourself, not for the grades. This is OK in a portfolio based career, but idk about an objective career.
Re: College
I can't think about anything else but getting out of college. Counting down the days. 92 left. But I agree with your sentiment, I haven't learned but a few things in 3.5 years at a university :\
2217 hours. Just saying.

During undergrad, I double-majored in ECE and Math. What you describe was not my experience at all. I think it really depends on where you go and what you study.Anayo wrote:After a year or two of it I've reached the conclusion that the point of college is to teach you how to be good at college.

Re: College
My experience with it is this:
Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.
The course is a ticket you have to invest time and money on to get on-the-job training which is where you actually learn how to do your job/career. Unfortunately for most high-paying jobs it's necessary. To anyone thinking of taking any long or expensive course I highly suggest talking to someone at a management position in the field you're planning to study about being hired on at a low-level position for a few months before taking the course. Doing so would definitely give you a heads-up on the course material and you'd know which questions to ask your teacher (they *love* being at a loss for words). Over 1/2 of the people who were in my first class dropped out of the field after the first 6 months on the job. What a waste...

so are you saying you didn't learn anything because are astute and already knew everything there is to know?dlmvii wrote:I can't think about anything else but getting out of college. or are you saying you didn't learn anything because you didn't put any effort into it?
i have a feeling it is the latter. you get out what you put in.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Looks like you didn't put in much.final fight cd wrote:so are you saying you didn't learn anything because are astute and already knew everything there is to know?dlmvii wrote:I can't think about anything else but getting out of college. Re: College
I've come to the conclusion that college is simply there to suck the money out of young kids who go to college because it's what you do.
I've learned a lot in college, no doubt. Much about life, much from books. Regardless, I haven't learned $15,000 I couldn't have taught myself from books.
It's a racket really.
Then again, maybe I'm jaded. I am at one of the largest schools in the nation, and the number of absolute idiots here is astounding.
