i disagree on the ps1 being the most underpowered for its time.
the 3DO was worse in terms of power vs. the ps1. some will also say atari jaguar, but i honestly believe the jaguar was in fact more powerful, just that it was super duper complicated.
I consider the 3DO to have been aimed more at the SNES/Genesis than the PS1 - mean, as soon as the fifth generation really heated up, 3DO was dead. And yeah, I think the Jaguar was more powerful than the PS1.
Not that they matter. Let's face it, the Fifth Generation was a three way race.

The PS3's dual layer blu-ray can store up to 50GB's while the Xbox's DVD is around 8.5GB's. From that point of view, the potential of the PS3 is much greater than the Xbox's.
So, like all of the other posts have stated, PS3 has better graphics than the 360, but it may not be so definite until they can use more of its potential.
There's nothing stopping devs putting games on multiple discs so the storage argument is completely null.
I know I'd prefer MGS4 on 4 DVDs than have to wait for those long ass fucking installs every couple of hours of playtime. Switching a DVD takes 30 seconds max. Installing the chapters on MGS4 takes 10 minutes...
WHOA THERE.
I finished beating MGS4 just a second ago (literally for the first time) Bullshit. the installs take 3 min MAX.
What's your point? That's still 6 times longer than it takes to get up and switch a DVD. Hell, I'm being real generous saying it takes 30 seconds too. It takes 10 seconds max. So it's really 18x longer than switching a DVD.
The initial install took about 15 minutes, each subsequent install took between 5 - 10 minutes for me. I timed the fucking thing because I thought it was ridiculous.
The EDRAM is used for storage of the frame buffer. Essentially you can fit a full 720p with 2xmsaa in the EDRAM with some data to spare. It's some that the the 360 gets for free, it doesn't cost the devs any resources to fit the frame buffer inside the EDRAM. Remember that the PS3 doesn't have this luxury, the frame buffer takes a certain percentage of the existing video RAM. So instead of having 256MB for texturing/vertex you have 246MB (if it uses the same frame buffer as the 360. It seems that everything is built around sacrifices that devs just don't have to make on the 360. It goes a long way to explaining why multiplatform titles are better on 360.
The whole MGS4 chapter buffer thing seemed like a blunder on Kojima's part anyway. I'd have gladly taken an optional install that would make it where all that data was permanently saved to the hard-disc.
I went with the 360, because while the PS3 may be technically able to do better graphics, and in a few instances may have actually done it, on average 360 games look better, especially multiplatform games.

Fair enough, that slipped my mind. Although, correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't a blu-ray disc have faster reading abilities? But it could also be that the PS3's disc drive doesn't read it at those speeds, I guess. I dunno...

Blu Ray at 2x (which the PS3 has) is 9 MB/s. Compare to the 54 MB/s of 12x DVD.
Just finished playing some Xbox games.
Couple notes
The 360 is sharper with harsher lighting
the PS3 is a little blurrier with nice soft lighting.
Basically, if you REALLY want to decide what console to buy I have one question
What controller do you like better?
It is the ONLY real way to convince people differently. They both have merits, the both have advantages. If you want to know what console is going to "win" this retarded "Console war" it is the Wii. There is NO WAY to argue that, it is the least capable system. but it introduced a whole generation to games, not to mention senior homes. they are almost buying them in bulk, not to mention they are cheap.
this is about which has more graphical power, proven graphical power.
this isnt about which system is best, i dont mind going a lil off topic but the main focus is the graphical power. i dont care much in this thread for which system is better overall, just graphical power. again dont mind going a little off topic.
anyways, im going off topic too lol and respond to the previous post. the wii isnt for everybody, i fucking hate it. i play games to be lazy not active, i dont want to be moving around. especially someone who plays alot of sport games like madden, gold, fight night i just like traditional controls, so i just fucking hate the wii. gold on wii? not for me, i like a 360 or ps3 controller. if halo ever goes motion sensing im going to fucking kill myself.
i just hope that the 360 and ps3 dont go fucking crazy with this motion sense technology because i want NOTHING to do with this crap. i own a 360 for its traditional use not motion shit its just not for me. if you like the wii buy it but id rather throw it in the garbage if i got it for fee.
There are 3 things I don't believe in, politics and math.

Gosh, tell me how you REALLY feel about the Wii!?!
