Zig's SNES Repros
Re: Zig's SNES Repros
I regret it because it isn't my label, it was one that I grabbed off a forum along with who knows how many other people. Sure, it is a very nice label. That's why I wanted to use it. But too many people use it, I don't really care for that. I have 4 or 5 other SF2 labels I made, I use those now.

I see. I plan on experimenting with creating a couple of my own custom Starfox 2 cartridges eventually. However, I suck at making labels. Would you be willing to post the labels you created for comparison / use by us? I understand if you aren't willing to do that, in case other copy cats appear though. If this is not possible, I would appreciate a link to the label that most others seem to be using.
Also, I plan to hire you to create reproductions (translation conversions) of Star Ocean and Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2). I will have you use the original cartridges and labels when the time comes, as I have acquired them, and would like to keep the games in tact as much as possible. I would be willing to pay for them to be created using the newer TSOP method you successfully implemented. I suppose I could do it myself, but this method seems much cleaner, yet more difficult. I don't have the money right now, but hopefully I will be getting a new job soon (got a call for a phone interview tomorrow; woot!).

I'll post samples of them here, scaled down with watermarks (so no one can steal them). If you want one for your own cart, I'll be glad to send you the original. However, if you were to start making carts for others, I would rather you NOT use my labels.
The two below are basically the same. In the bottom one, you can see the planet through the letters, that's the only difference.
Three more that I made...
And yet, three more. The top one is for a JPN cart that I made for a forum member. The middle one was the first one I made. Took the image from the original "teaser" box art. The bottom one is the same as the other only I added the planet behind them.
They're not great, but I couldn't find better images. If any one finds some good images that I can make a label out of (for any game) please post a link for me!
Here's a link to the label from the Liquid Ninja's forum...

That's cool.

I can use the * method for SoM2, but not for Star Ocean. Star Ocean is similar to Star Fox 2, it has a surface mounted mask ROM, so the * method wont work.

Well since Star Ocean is very similar to Star Fox 2, and you said you wanted to make your own Star Fox 2, maybe you would like to make your own Star Ocean as well? If not, I'll do it for you if you want.

If you could somehow send me the originals; that would be great.
Especially sense I can't really tell which one I would rather use
from the scaled down examples of the labels that you provided.
I suppose if you had to mail them to me, I could pay you a fee,
that way I couldn't really steel them as easily for mass
producing my own Starfox 2 reproductions.
Though, I promise I wouldn't do such things.
If you could just e-mail them as attachments;
that would be great. Would you recommend I
take them to a printing facility (for example:
Office Max? I don't have great printing
equipment here at home, and it would
probably look better laser printed or
something similar.
Are you still using the clear packaging tape
method over the label; to provide glossiness?

Thanks for posting all of this information;
I will let you know what I decide to do;
when the time comes

Wow!!
This is an awesome project that you working on. I usually don't buy repros (never have) but these are most def worth it and so much hard work put into it. And the labels look so crisp and official. I might have to PM you for Bahamut Lagoon and Star Ocean...

Re: Zig's SNES Repros
I was able to get a Bare Knuckles 3 cart working
I have to wait for more EPROMs to come in for Willy Wars and Alien Soldier though.

Re: Zig's SNES Repros
That's awesome news!
I've got my eeproms, just trying to find a good eeprom writer. I completely overlooked the fact that my PC doesn't have a parallel port (I built it last September). Do you know of any reliable programmers that are USB or a reliable PCI Parallel expansion card?

Re: Zig's SNES Repros
Yes, but they're located in Canada. There's a company that took the Willem programmer and made it better. They have a parallel version, then they have a "True USB" version which, as the name implies, is powered and has its data connection by USB only. It was $60 or $70 if I remember correctly. They then took the True USB model and improved on it further, which is the programmer I recently got, and it was $100 I think. I have to admit, the True USB has been a breeze compared to the parallel version. It does reads and writes SO much faster.
edit:
I have never used a Parallel PCI card before, so I couldn't recommend one to you. I wouldn't bother trying a parallel to USB cable, that wouldn't work for sure. If you have to resort to a parallel PCI card, I would just stick with a good brand name and make sure you can put it in EPP mode.
You got EEPROMs? Did you mean to say EPROMs?

Re: Zig's SNES Repros
Yeah sorry! I got confused. They're definitely eproms I just checked. eeproms and eproms are confusing. Such a similar name.
I'll look into getting the true usb version then. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Zig's SNES Repros
Any progress, Niode?
My new 16-bit adapter finally came in, so I could finish my Wily Wars cart...!

I still can't believe how great the Genesis labels ended up looking. I'm using the same material as I do for SNES labels, but for some reason the Genesis labels look better. I showed my brother the Bare Knuckles III cart and he didn't believe it was one that I made lol.
That Zombies cart in the back is that new hack that I posted a few weeks ago. I ended up putting it on a cart for myself. The reason it's black is because of Goo Gone Extreme lol. It eats the plastic. There was no way to rectify that cart, so I just sprayed it black. Still looks like shit, but oh well.
