This is actually a new phenomenon. I myself have seen a woman out front of a department store 'spanging' while holding a child in one arm and talking on the newest Iphone available.

In addition, there is a homeless guy that hangs out around the thrift stores in my local downtown area, who not only uses his iphone, but also uses an ipod to listen to music simultaneously...while asking me for a cigarette.

People ask me for cigarettes all the time in or by my apartment building. There is a smoke shop on the other side of my street.

I'll do you one better:

People already pay extra for those "trendy" jeans and whatnot that are faded and have holes in them, right? Perhaps someone believes the same will hold true for iPhones. They give a bum a brand new iPhone, let them use it for a little bit, then come and swap it out after a while. The bum starts "breaking-in" the new one while some yuppie sells the "worn" one for twice what it's worth!

That way, people can get their ultra-cool faded iPhones while still looking down on the homeless because they just have a regular iPhone; those are soooooo last year.

I have to say, I have never heard of bums being so tech savvy.
