2D Metroid DS...Why hasn't Nintendo made this?

So with all this talk about Nintendo fighting Pirates lately...what about Space Pirates? I can't think of a single true Nintendo fan that wouldn't get in line for something like a Metroid Fusion or Zero Mission. This would be a trip to the bank!

...so what gives? I mean, I know big N isn't hurting for money but I can't for the life of me think of a reason this game hasn't happened. Any ideas or insights?

Metroid Dread's coming, but like Super Metroid before it I see this coming out late near the end of the DS's lifespan or as a DS2 launch title.

Meh, Metroid 2 was good and all, but the experience was lacking compared to almost all the others.

Oh yeah, I've had that demo on my comp for forever and can't wait, but an official remake ala Metroid: Zero Mission would be nice.

Too bad Nintendo will shut them down once they're about to release it. Time after time, people don't seem to realize they should wait until after they release a Nintendo fan game before they talk about it.
