What is your favorite fighting game series?
Re: What is your favorite fighting game series?
Why VF got so few votes? It's currently the best 3D series. Tekken and Soulcalibur have become flashy sellouts imho.

I've been trying to get into Virtua Fighter for that very reason. Unfortunately, I've gotta long way to go before I can become even halfway proficient with it.
I'm hoping all the love for Tekken and Soul Calibur is coming from their earlier games. God knows, there's very little to love in their recent entries. Namco Bandai has recently become the master of going below my already low expectations.

Re: What is your favorite fighting game series?
I'd say as far as my favorite 3D fighting game goes, Soul Calibur is definitely it for a single entry. For it's time it offered a great cast of characters, great game depth, and extra modes that kept me coming back long after I'd unlocked everything. But after Soul Calibur, the series just never felt the same, as if it was trying but the magic just wasn't there. That's not to say that Soul Calibur 2 was poorly made, I thought it was an excellent sequel. But it did have a lot to live up to, almost too much, so when I rank them I always find Soul Calibur to be better. Soul Calibur 3 and 4, however...you guys are right, the series just feels flashy and cheap now. I still play them, but...meh.
As for Tekken, I actually always felt it was too flashy...but hey, Virtua Fighter is what I played. I doubt I'm anywhere near tournament level, but I can go toe to toe with the best local VF player I know, so I'm happy with that. And with each entry, I actually feel Virtua Fighter gets stronger somehow. Like the additions they make to the roster and the new game features they include just feel good to me.

Re: What is your favorite fighting game series?
I voted for Street Fighter, Samurai Showdown, and Virtua Fighter for my top 3.
If there were options for Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, or Guilty Gear series it might have changed my decision, but probably not.
I also think Soul Calibur is an excellent 3D fighter as is Dead or Alive. I've always been a bit nonplussed with Tekken though. It always seemed a bit to easy to button mash through a fight and I have always thought the character models were mostly ugly and ridiculous, especially Heihachi and the Jaguar-head-man.

Re: What is your favorite fighting game series?
I really like Mortal Kombat when I was a kid because it was so controversial. Given the choices on the poll I chose the VS series for its over-the-top button mashing fun.
Re: What is your favorite fighting game series?
My favorite fighting game series is Guilty Gear, but since it wasn't on the list, Tekken first, then the Vs. series, then Street Fighter.
I don't know why people don't like Tekken 6. I know it's just their opinion, but when I played Tekken 6, I just absolutely loved it.

For 2D fighters, Street Fighter (II, III, Alpha series inclusive) is the king for me. Though it's a close call with KoF at times. Soulcalibur is my favourite 3D series, the first and second especially. I've always had a fondness for the old Mortal Kombats too...
Re: What is your favorite fighting game series?
Street Fighter. A newbie can pick it up fairly quick, yet it takes a long time to master it. I dont really care for button mashers like Tekken. Tekken 3 and 6 are really good but I like games that are a little deeper. Tekken does have depth dont get me wrong, just not as much as SF in my opinion.
