game doctor sf III anyone familiar with it?
i picked up a game doctor sf III recently. as far as i can tell it lets you copy your snes games onto a floppy. anyone used one before? is it simple or in any way usefull? also, anyone know how much they retailed for out of curiosity.

Tototek sells a ton of them, so if you wanna see how much they go for that's a good place to looks.
They use to be a lot more useful when we didn't have any other options available. Still, you can use it to play ROMs off of floppies. You might wanna hold on to it. You can use it to play translated or hacked ROMs on real hardware. This means you can play Secret of Mana 2 or Final Fantasy 5. You just can't play any games with special chips like the Super FX chip in Star Fox 2, SA-1 chip in Mario RPG, S-DD1 in Star Ocean, etc.
Flash carts are easier to use, if you ask me. Tototek carries one, and Retro Zone has another.
Tototek also carries more memory and an updated BIOS chip for the backup units. If you wanna keep yours, I would max the memory out and update the BIOS chip. Either that or sell it and use the money to get a flash cart.

I didn't see the memory for the SF3, just the SF6 and 7.

More of a collectable curiosity, great to add to your SNES rarity collection.
I imagine those floppies will take lot longer to load then a Flash cart.
Still a good find. Is this the one you have?

Yeah, they're a pain in the ass compared to a flash cart. Especially when you have to load from multiple floppies.

Great price, considering Tototek is selling it for $40.
Re: game doctor sf III anyone familiar with it?
I'm pretty sure you can use a Genesis power supply with one of these. I bought one a while back and the seller told me that. Does yours come with the adapter for it to connect to the cartridge slot of the snes? It needs that to run as well. I knew of a place that sells them but can't think of it right now. I think they were $30 for that piece.
These things are kind of a cool piece but by todays standards, highly out of date and more of a pain to use than anything. It doesn't read normal snes roms, instead you have to use really old software (i think the software is called ucon64? kind of forget now) to convert rom images to a proprietary file that this thing reads. You also have to break up the rom into several files so that this can load it into each of its memory banks, which I think are 8megabits each, or 16, can't remember haha.
Another annoying thing about it is, if you unplug the game doctor, the ram clears so you have to reload your game using the floppies to play again, which isn't the fastest thing in the world.
Flashcarts really are the way to go.

it has the connector (i was holding it by that when i took photo). yea im not a big fan of roms or emulators myself, but for 5 bucks i figurede i could afford to take a chance. seems like the floppy drive is stuck though? can it be replaced? thanks for the adapter info!!
