Best Game Box?

Post by lisalover1 »

What, in your opinion, is the best box design for a game console's games? I always liked the Master System boxes, since they were uniform in design and pattern, and were hard plastic. But, my favorite is the European/Japanese Neo-Geo Pocket Box. It's small, plastic, durable, has another plastic case for holding the cartridge inside it, and has a latch on the box. Genius. My least favorite box, however, is probably that of the original Game Boy. It was cardboard, which means that no one could keep them in good condition, the logo was dull, and the packaging inside was just more cardboard.

I'd go with the Master System *and* MegaDrive (Genesis to you Americans)

I do love the NES "cartridge holder" (or whatever it's called), but the boxes themselves is crap

of course the "new" design DVD-cases are very suitable for bookshelves, but... I'm not sure if I like them all looking the same(?)

Dreamcast cases are nice as well; reminds me of PSX cases, but feels more.... ... I don't know... just like 'em more =)

Genesis or PlayStation. I've always liked standard CD cases.

Sega Master System boxes are better than Genesis boxes because Sega Master System boxes are completely uniform with each other so they look amazing on bookshelves, making them my favorite. The worst is definitely Sega CD Boxes because of the cracking.

Master System had the worst box art though. Case in point:

Can't polish that turd. :)

I like it because all the art is usually simple or not there.

The black grid Genesis boxes were the best. The ugly, red-on-orange striped Genesis boxes were the worst.

Earthbound for SNES had the best box.

The best cardboard boxes were the Neo Geo Pocket boxes. The way they opened up made them functional and aesthetically pleasing, so I'd actually have a reason to keep the boxes around.

Best non-cardboard boxes are the DS cases. Their addition of a GBA slot made them great for casing all the GBA carts I had lying around.

The worst 'box' for me has to be the dreamcast Jewel cases. They're just so horribly breakable, and unlike the cardboard Nintendo boxes, you really do need to keep your GD-ROMs safely packaged.

As for the best, I'm not too fussed as long as it's plastic. The only exception is the saturn boxes, which don't seem to close properly.
