PS3 Japanese Imports...?

Post by MrEco »

I'm hoping to get a few JP Imports for my PS3. So far my list consists of...

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise
and
Record of Agarest War (Heard a rumor this is getting a NA release. Can anyone confirm?)

I'm looking for a specific type of game.
1) A game that is not a dating sim but has dating sim elements in it (Preferably an RPG or Adventure game).
Or if that doesn't exist...
2) A straight up dating sim.

Ya know, anime graphics, hot anime chicks and scenes that border on being defined as hentai.

Also (probably the most important part) English voice acting and/or subtitles are almost essential.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Good luck with that last part.
Also Agarest war is coming out for the 360 as well on disc, as well as the aforementioned PSN release.

Thus far, the only game that seemed worthwhile to import from Japan is Toro - Let's Party, which is just a cute little Mario Party-style game. And in fact, it's better to import the Hong Kong version, because it's in English. If you're into racing & anime, take a look at Initial D Extreme Stage. It's probably only in Japanese, but I'm sure that would hardly matter for a racing game.

Aside from that, everything else is either coming to America, coming to Europe, or extremely text heavy and not in English. As much as I'd like to check out Tears to Tiara, Tears to Tiara Gaiden, Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan, Megazone 23: Aoi Garland, Boku no Natsuyasumi 3 and many others, I just can't see spending more than $20 on a game that I'm not going to be able to read.

Going to find it hard to find stuff on the PS3 (or any home console, for that matter) that comes close to risqué. They tend to keep a close watch out for things like that.

Does the European version of Record of Agarest War support 480p so it can work on my SDTV?

Record of Agarest war will be released in disc form in the US on the 360. Download-only on the PS3. The 360 is even getting a "really naughty" edition with a dakimakura pillow cover, the soundtrack, a mousepad [with a boob-shaped wrist support pad], and the game in a special box. Needless to say, I've already pre-ordered it.

Another Dating-Sim/RPG you should look into for the PS3 is Ar Tonelico 3. It is pending a release in the US, but it's out in Japan, and the first 2 games were released here for the PS2.

No, it doesn't. Found this out the hard way.

And, ironically, now that I have an HDTV, I haven't popped it in yet.

Heh, yeah - I'm planning to get the 360 version, and I don't even have a 360. (Yet, anyway.) I plan to just sell the X360 game and keep all of the bonus stuff.

Makes me kinda mad that I imported the European version and all the limited edition of that came with was an artbook and a poster. Oh well, I didn't pay more than $60 to import the collector's edition, so it's no big deal.
