I also wish I had a better answer for you, I just don't know much about DWI law other than what my friends have gone through (doesn't say much about my friends, does it?). I have a long time friend who is a lawyer, who fled the scene after an accident he caused while drunk. He reported his car as stolen, and made out with insurance money. He literally benefited from fleeing the scene while drunk.

You are talking about your ex-friends, correct? Otherwise, I have to state the obvious that you have terrible friends. I hope you forgot to mention that you broke off your friendships with them after finding out their true colors.

I think DUI punishments should be much harsher than they are right now. At the very least, it deserves more punishment than illegally downloading a few mp3s.

Let me put it simply. I'll use the money laundering analogy here. If you launder money you are doing the same as piracy. You aren't robbing a bank (IE Stealing) you're copying an existing bank note and passing it off as legit. This is COMPLETELY different from stealing. You aren't stealing anything, merely copying and reproducing.

Just to clarify; you're not describing money laundering, you're describing forgery. Money laundering is moving funds (usually illicit or ill gotten) through apparently unrelated third parties to make them seem legitimate. Like on Breaking Bad where he gets the money through his son's website

I agree wholeheartedly. Although I don't agree with how DUI convictions are obtained sometimes, the punishment should be WAY more severe. I live in Wisconsin, in which your first DUI offense is not even a misdemeanor, it is a civil citation, which equates to solely a fine (and raised insurance rates, I suppose).
