New Zombies Ate My Neighbors hack!

Post by Ziggy »

"Oh no! More Zombies Ate My Neighbors" is the name of the hack.

I noticed this new hack on RHDN and didn't see any talk of it here, I figured some would be interested in it. Looks pretty cool, and complete. The author said he's been working on it for 10 years! And he calls it an unofficial sequel to the first game.

the author wrote:I hope you enjoy the hack, I've been working on it on-and-off (off more and more as the years went on) with a friend of mine (Matt) for nearly a decade.
The hack is pretty complete, there are a few more features I wanted to add, but I don't see that happening. If anyone else wants to continue working on this game, I would be more than happy to share my notes with them.
the author wrote:New Features for Oh No! More Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

*55 new levels, including 8 Bonus levels, a new Credit Level, and a secret Mystery level

*Reverse Inventory Cycling - Nothing I hated worse in the original game than
being chased by a werewolf, franticly hitting the B button looking for the
silverware, accidently passing it, and having to search through the entire
weapons stock again. Now if you hold down the "L" button, you can search
backwards through your weapons and items inventories. The formerly unused "Select"
button not brings up the victim radar.

*Random Starting Items and Weapons - When you start a new game or put in a password,
you will start with any weapon or item in the game (chosen at random) instead of
always getting the squirtgun and healthkit. All the ammo amounts have been
pre-selected for each weapon and item, so you won't start with 10 tomatos or 255
healthkits.

*New Weapon: Banana - The banana weapon, which was replaced with the popsicle and
dummied out of the final release has been added to the game.

*New Enemy: Soda Machines - These possessed vending machines hurl a never-ending
supply of soda skyward. When they land, the explosion hurts any player in the blast
radius. You can run inbetween explosions if you time it right, or blow the machine
up with a bazooka and be rewarded with a 6-pack. Monster punches will also kill
the machine, but also destroys the 6-pack.

*New End of Level Bonuses - Frankenstein Destroy Bonus (2000 points)
Monster Frozen Bonus (2000 points)

*New Victim: Blue Cheerleader - She's alot like the old cheerleader, but she has
a BLUE DRESS!!!!
You have to use a program called Lunar Expand (also found on RHDN) to expand the ROM to 32Mbits, then add a header, then you can apply the patch. If any one has any problems with this, I could do it for you.

Yeah, it's probably a better game than Ghoul Patrol.

edit: OK, I just patched one for myself. I used the [!] version ROM for the GoodSNES set. First I loaded it with ZSNES and there were some glitches during the opening screens. Once I got to the first level, the character sprite was invisible and would flash on and off when I moved around. So I loaded it with SNES9xw and it seemed to play fine. I haven't tested it on real hardware yet, but I plan to. I'll posts the results.

Like I was saying, you have to use Lunar Expand to expand the ROM to 32Mbits, than you have to use SNES Tool to add a header, than patch the ROM with the IPS file. If some one doesn't wanna mess around with that crap, PM me your email and I'll send you the prepatched ROM.

edit: Disregard the italicized text, it works perfectly fine in ZSNES. I was ripping a DVD when I tried the ROM in ZSNES and for some reason that caused some glitches.

Hmmm, are you using the newest version of ZSNES? I'm probably not. I guess it's time to update.

Hmm, that's strange, I have the same version. I just tried it again now and it works perfectly. I was ripping a DVD at the time, and for some reason that affected ZSNES. Oh well, just disregard what I said about it not working in ZSNES.

After you expand the ROM with Lunar Expand, you have to use a program called SNES Tool to add a header to the ROM. Then you can apply the patch.

Additionally, PM me your email and I'll send you a prepatched ROM :D
