Cool game glitches

When I was a kid and only had a limited amount of games to play, I knew those games inside and out. I would try to find everything out that I could about the game and I loved discovering weird glitches.

The most famous is probably the Super Mario Bros minus world. As you get to the end of World 1-2 where the exit pipe is, you can jump on top and smash bricks leaving one brick hanging from the wall. If you jump backwards and press Mario's head against the brick, he will slide through it, and glide all the way through the wall to a new pipe. Go down the pipe and you are in a never-ending water world labeled only as World -1.

Ghosts n' Goblins also had a cool glitch. At the end of Stage 3, you will battle a Chinese Dragon. After he is defeated, a key will fall from the sky, near the ledge to your left. If you get under the key before it falls and kneel down, the gate will not open as long as you are kneeling. If you are positioned far enough to the left, you can jump from this crouched position and actually fall to the bottom of the ledge. When you land, your knight will raise his arms in victory, and start running. He will run through the walls and miss the gate. He keeps running and you see all kinds of weird environments that you were never meant to see. He just keeps running indefinetly and the backgrounds keep changing and getting more screwed up. You will have to reset the game to play again.

When I was a kid I used to play a lot of Mega Man on the NES. For a long time all I had was Mega Man 2 so I found some things by accident through normal play. One of the coolest glitches in that game was the ability to zip through walls allowing you to skip parts of stages and sometimes screw up other things in the game.

This was most noticeable on Quick Man's stage where zipping through a wall meant you had to play the rest of the stage "in the dark".

Another one: Mortal Kombat 2 had a funny glitch with friendships. It was sometimes possible to execute a friendship if you were killed by a throw. Used to have a lot of fun with this one when I managed to do it against unsuspecting friends.



Theres a video of the glitch in action. That guy has taken it to the extreme though...wish I would have thought about doing some of that stuff back in the day.

Super Smash Brothers Melee has a ton of awesome glitches. But the most well known is probably the Black Hole:

I would always love doing the glitch in Sonic 2 that used debug mode to mess with Sonic's pallete.

Wasn't exactly cool, but when playing Force Unleashed, spoiler-os ahead:




When fighting Darth Vader, (for the first time and last leg of the fight) , he rushed me and landed under the scaffolding of the stage layout. He didn't die, didn't return. After around five minutes I had to reset the game.

The coolest glitch though remains jumping over the pole in SMB.

Modern Warfare 2 is a giant glitch wrapped up in a nice package. Yeah i went there!
