Street Fighter for me, absolutely love the game, though most 2D fighters play in a very similar fashion. Street Fighter 4 is also the first beat-em-up I've been able to get my mates into, and teach them how to play. Since then we've stepped back to Street Fighter III: Third Strike to get a bit of parry action (Also, I have arcade sticks for the DC which is always good).
Other than that, Power Stone 2 is always a firm favourite, though obviously not as chess-like in a tactical sense, it's damn good fun. Same to Smash Bros.
Trying to get my hands on a copy of Garou. Heard good things about it but never played it. Tried Tekken 6 this week and found it extremely slow and unsatisfying... The only 3D fighter I've ever enjoyed is Soul Calibur.
What is your favorite fighting game series?

I love Bloody Roar! I can't believe I forgot it! Since of several requests, I'm going to soon make a separate 3d and 2d threadAck wrote:I actually put Virtua Fighter. What it's done for 3D fighting games has been immense, though I realize most people avoid it.
On a side note, nobody a big fan of Bloody Roar? I realize that it's unlikely to be more popular than these mainstay series, but I'm sure somebody out there loves it.

You know I really wish the series would just go beat'em up and stop with the one on one fighter formula. Mortal Kombat:Shaolin Monks was more fun for me than any other Mortal Kombat game I've played. The MK universe fits so perfectly into the beat'em up genreZiggy587 wrote:Is Mortal Kombat really that hated that you would have to actually remove it from the list for another game?

3d - Bloody Roar is my favorite, even over Soul Calibur. Virtua Fighter is my favorite technical.
2d - Vs series hand down. I love the stories that surround King of Fighters and I have played alot of Street Fighter, but give me double air jumps and screen sized supers. I will always have a spot in my collection for Waku Waku 7 though.
Party - Powerstone, followed closely by Smash Brothers.

Chose KOF...I don't know, I just used to play that all the time and it's a nice game.
Tekken's pretty impressive from what I've played, I actually just played 6 at a friend's couple months ago and started playing 5 on my ps2. There's just so many different combos and counterattacks and stuff though... too time consuming for me to get remotely good in the game at this point in life for me.
I know most of KOFs combos and stuff, so its the most familiar I guess.
I'm pretty sure I overplayed Smash Bros...kinda hate that game now...

What is this? No Red Earth? Just kidding... I never even got a chance to play that title, although I remember a friend all excited telling me about the fatalities.
I just love the Street Fighter Alphas (2!)... 2nd would be the first part of the Samurai Shodown series (1 & 2), which stand apart from the rest of the series - I love those games too, just not as much. Third would probably tie between the Virtua Fighter and DOA series, although I chose Virtua Fighter for my third choice.
On some of the talk from earlier... I loved Killer Instinct at first, but quickly grew sick of it for some reason. It just didn't keep me coming back.
I too was a MK kid. Now I realize they are a far cry from anything by Capcom or SNK. Only really play those for nostalgic reasons. Playing them arcade perfect through MAME really gets in touch with that inner-child who always dreamed of being able to do that in my living room. Especially playing part 1, which never received a decent home port.

I keep looking at Bloody Roar and thinking I should get it.
