A few problems with Game Boy Color

Post by casterofdreams »

Hi Y'all. I recently bought a Game boy Color from Half.com and it works great. I do have a few questions and was wondering if there is a way to fix it. For starters the A and B buttons seem too unresponsive. I don't remember it being like that where I have to press down hard to execute an action. Is there a way to change out the rubber circles because I had the same problems with an Atari Lynx and I changed out the rubber circles and it was fixed. I don't even know where to get those rubber things anyway, at least for the CGB. Second question is how do you fix the squeaky D-pad? Every time I move either up or to the right, it squeaks as if it is rubbing up against the plastic or something. And third question (I swear I'm done after this), where do you get a replacement of the outer screen and installing that screen because mine is all scratched up? Thanks in advance if anyone can answer these three questions.

For the squeaky D-pad and unresponsive A and B buttons, you could open it up and try cleaning out any dirt, dust and grim that might have found its way in there over the years. I would clean it first and then go from there.

You can get a new housing, complete with new plastic screen, all buttons, and rubber pads here:

It's a reproduction, but a good quality one.
You'll need a tri-wing screwdriver to take the gameboy apart

And I'm sure you could probably just pop out the plastic screen and glue it on to the good case and use the rubber circles, just so you can still have an original case.

That is a great idea but I bought the system for the clear indigo case because it was what I always wanted when I was a kid. Instead I got the lime green  . Anyway I'll open it up and try to clean it even though I see no visible dirt.
