I completely agree! Something I've found really frustrating about the 360's analog is it seems to be rotated incorrectly or misplaced on the controller (I'm too used to the PS2 analog). When I'm playing Pacman CE I find it missing the directions I'm trying for because what I think should be the up direction is not on that controller.

I think your controller is broken. All of my controllers are fine on all my games. Except SFIV of course, but I have a madcatz SF pad for that anyway. Even after modifying my dpad it still sucks for SF, but then again, I never got on with the SNES pad for SF due to the triggers. I preferred the 3 by 3 layout of 6 button sega pads.

I find that all of the controllers work pretty well for me. I really don't have an issue with any of them except for perhaps the xbox controller. The original one I found to be too big. The second one was comfortable but there are too many buttons on it. It's overkill in my opinion. Let's see, you have 6 buttons on the right face. Two buttons on the left face. Two trigger buttons. Two analog controls that also have push in/out buttons and a D pad. Maybe it's essential for FPS to have the level of control but I find it overly complex.

My first choice is the SNES controller. Classic, comfortable, just the right number of buttons.
Second choice is for the Gamecube (wavebird). Very comfortable, long battery life.
Third choice is for the PS1/PS2 dual controllers. Again, very comfortable, good feel.

The controller I most dislike is the Intellivision controller.

Pfft, obviously you've never tried to throw one at the jerk that just cut you off while driving 60+ down the freeway.

That couldn't have been you.

Could it have been you?

I chose Xbox, N64, and SNES. I've always loved those controllers.

Last time we did this the Saturn Model 2 controller won. I am glad to see the SNES pad doing better this time.

Since my opionions haven't changed much. Here's what I posted last time.
I just hope the PS controller does not get the highest percent. I can't stand a analog after thought controller. If you gave the PC-Duo RX/PC-FX controller shoulder buttons I think that would be the best 2D controller. It is like the Saturn 2 controller but has more weight to it and a stiffer D-pad plus two selector switches that can change the controllers paramaters on the fly depending on the game. I like the Gamecube controller for 3d games. I'd give it to the N64 though for being the most versatile controller
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

I understand what you mean and I agree, but i find myself confused by this, because i dont find the NES or SMS or suchlike to be too light, and they weigh even less.
You know, you're right, while I don't think the NES or SNES have the greatest controllers ever, I don't dislike them. Weird.

As for my favorite three that I mentioned earlier (360, DC, N64), I've been thinking of things that they have in common. I think a common trend between those 3 are the weight distribution. The 360 is a heavy controller, not overly so, but heavy, with a good amount of weight in the middle. A fully loaded DC controller (i.e. with a VMU and jump pack) is heavy with most weight coming form the upper center part. The same holds true for an N64 controller loaded with a rumble pack.

Maybe I'm over thinking it, but it seems as though I prefer a specific amount of bulk at a certain area of the controller.

For me, a key thing is having a controller that fits comfortably in my hand when i hold it. The playstation control doesnt feel very comfy to me (maybe i hold it awkwardly?), and neither does the SNES due to the curved edges combined with the flat back. The mega drive isnt quite as bad, maybe because of the bigger, more gradual curve. strangly, the square pads of the SMS and NES dont feel uncomfortable at all, and I prefer them to the SNES and Mega Drive despite those two consoles being my most played consoles of my childhood.

The Saturn controller (model 2, of course) is my favorite. Always has been. My affection for it borders on coitus. I do love the Genesis 6-button too, though; I voted for both. Threesome?

That said, I must say that the 360 controller is really nice, and undoubtedly my current-gen choice. Yes, we all know the problem with the D-pad, but still, it's mostly well laid-out, feels great and is so incredibly far ahead of that god damn PS controller that Sony's refused to improve upon in any way.
