What is a Spine Card really used for?!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

No, not really.

Still, they are pretty useless though. Only important to uber hardcore collectors. That said, I have a copy of Radiant Silvergun complete with spine card, which is pretty cool. I'm thinking I may end up selling it to someone on this forum someday(at a discount because Racketboy members are cool) as there are people here who are FAR more into these types of shooters than me. Not quite ready to part with it just yet though. I mean,it's frikking Radiant Silvergun!!!

Uh, when that day comes, consider me first interested on the list. Just saying. :)

I have a couple of Jpn Sega Saturn games, but they didn't come with the spine card. I didn't know what they really where until now, they seem kind of useless.

Thank you for the great sources of info. After reading these, just like lots of people have said... they seem pretty useless. They have turned a kids throw away item into collectable thing... thats all really. For some reason I always thought they had a practical purpose of some sort. I'm actually a little disappointed... lol,

Obi/Spine cards sometime contain information that isn't otherwise on the outside of the package. I have Japanese audio CDs that don't have song titles on the back. They are only found inside the book or on the obi. Usually the obi will also have the MSRP and release date for audio discs. Sometimes they just say promo stuff like 'containing the hit single XXXX' or 'new in hit game series YYYY' or whatever.
