Trust me, 1UP Yours is really good. The guys that do this show definitely aren't noobs. I know what you mean about reading the sites, and finding them lame. In fact, I rarely even read 1up.com anymore. Like, ever. But I never miss this show. There's something more "real" about it when you have guys sitting around over a beer passionately discussing games rather than just one person writing a story or a review and trying to be all snarky/cool. Of course, they hardly ever talk about anything retro, but that's why they have Retronauts.

Also - Racketboy podcasts. Yes, please.

I've actually considered the podcast thing, but I honestly don't think I could find the time.
Not to mention, I don't think I would be that interesting in a recorded format.

Now if somebody on here knew what they were doing and wanted to take the lead and just have me join in and possibly plan out topics and such, I'll jump on board.

I've got a bit of experience with this kinda thing, but not so much as to 'take the lead'.

The 'issue' I have is a lack of webhosting, and a (IMHO) awful British accent (makes living in Canada interesting though).
Video podcasts are best for this kinda topic, as you can let the actual video do most of the talking, with an occasional narration.

On a Mac, iMovie and Garageband should do it all for you. On Windows, Audacity and Movie Maker.

I'd be willing to help if needed, though.

I have experience creating podcasts in my newspaper job. I use Audacity on a Mac. It's easy as hell to use as far as the editing goes, and no expensive mics are required. For long distance communication I know a lot of podcasters use Skype or other cheap/free VoIP means.

I've done five "episodes" of my local music podcast for the paper so far. They're at www.news-leader.com/soundcheck.

The sound quality varies because I had to use a tiny hand-held voice recorder for the first few. The best-sounding one is the one at the top.

I'd totally be willing to help with this if the idea gets going.

That does sound nice. I do get irritated by how snarky/cool everyone in the industry tries to be now. I'd rather people just be real. I also hate game journalists who are pretentious. I notice this sometimes on Gamecritics where a game can get a HORRIBLE review for something silly like its lack of "social relevance"or because its story is apparently not Shakespearean enough. These are GAMES. Sure, it's nice when something like Ico can reach the level of high art, but not every game needs to be taken that seriously

I'd be more than willing to sit around on Skype and talk about games, if needed of course.

Ok I caught up. They're basically the same. 2 years ago they were chanting the doom of the Revolution (Wii), and now they simply chant it's suckage. Damn near every episode they go "Look! We told you it would suck! Haha!", ignoring all the sales of course. God, they're stupid. But they're so stupid that it's entertaining.

1UP Yours is probably the smartest podcast. They're the most serious and honest, and clearly know their stuff. They only rarely make mistakes or are oblivious to a title they should know of.

Evil Avatar radio is extremely dull, and mediocre on the information. It just puts me to sleep fast. It usually has a couple very soft spoken guys, and 1 or 2 very timid girls who clearly never strayed past Sims or Final Fantasy. Avoid.

Destructoid's two podcasts aren't bad. One is for modern gaming, one is for retro. Both are hosted by the same people for the most part. They're respectable people, and they know a good deal, but their opinions are often extreme and uneducated. They spend a little too much time reaching for pedophile and virgin jokes, and assuring us that most gamers are fat and ugly, while they are super sexy. The act gets very old.
