I've played through it more and unlocked all "evolutions" and I'm rather impressed with this tribute to shmups.
Probably every single idea there is not original (although I don't know as some of the "evolutions" were new to me in shmups) but they are all in one place and implemented decently at that.
I like all 5 sub-weapon evolutions, my favorite is "Absorb" (the "last" evolution is much more powerful and makes ludicrous combos really easy, but Absorb has more style IMO). The evolution to the slow-mo sub-weapon is a bit overpowered together with the way the shield works, but it is still cool. The "standard" laser is ok and was very familiar to me, in stark contrast with the "Zero Shift" sub-weapon which felt really weird to me in shmups (I think it was "tributed" from another shmup, if you know which let me know).
I really enjoyed the main weapon evolution "Blade", but the others were cool except for the "Graze" one which I didn't really like the implementation (the idea is decent).
In terms of bombs I must say I only really liked the "Flash" evolution (the standard instant "smart bomb" that hits everything on the screen).
Ivo.
