Like I said, though, I can set the monitor options on my PC to run in 640x480 mode, which does produce a picture on my TV through the VGA input. That's why it seems so odd to me.
But yeah, originally I was going to look at VGA to component until I saw the much cheaper VGA to HDMI transcoder in this thread that someone said worked very well (backed up by other reviews from DC owners on the Monoprice site). Obviously keeping analog analog sounds nice and all, but if the HDMI converter does its job, would sticking with analog really still be preferable?

Computer might be putting out different color mode or hertz refresh rate compared to Dreamcast VGA signal. Very frustrating you have all pieces fitting, still no image.
VGA to HDMI definitely cheaper way to go from looks like proven results. From what I see (if an issue to you) DC lightgun will not work. Than again VGA to Component has not been tested with lightgun either.
Whichever transcoder you use, can you post results here or at my link below?

The lightgun issue doesn't bother me. Sure, it'd be great if I could use one on House of the Dead 2, but I've never had a lightgun for my DC anyway.
Will do.CRTGAMER wrote:Whichever transcoder you use, can you post results here or at my link below?

I have a little sound issue. I have 2 cheap speakers with no volume control on them and I need to stick the speak on my head to hear it. Is there a way to increase the signal or do I need to get new speakers?

I have two VGA boxes and when I hook them up to my CRT monitor, they work fine. When I hook them up to my LCD TV, it makes them widescreen - including Sonic Adventure, which I know isn't meant to be widescreen. I can't seem to change the input, since it's 'auto detect'. It doesn't make SNES games widescreen. It claims it's at 640x480 resolution. Any clues on what I can do to fix this? I use a Naxa LCD.

You should have some sort of display option on your TV. My remote has a "format" button that stretches, does a partial zoom, full zoom, no overscan, and so on. You should have a "regular" mode of some kind that just gives you the original aspect ratio of whatever your source is.
Seems a bit odd that it would stretch by default, though.

Well, I couldn't find my remote, so I was trying to change the setting through the menu, to no avail. But I did stumble on the remote and was able to change to 4:3, thank god.

Kudos to racketboy. I purchased the VGA cable a few days ago and it came already.
I would not hesitate to purchase from racketboy. And yes, the cables make the Dreamcast look great
